| Theme.
Pollyflame International has chosen the theme "traveling" for their first
student design contest. All entries must be related to this theme in one way or another.
Every year a new theme will be chosen for the design contest. The assignment for the entrants of the Marksman Design Award is to design a new and original business gift that fits in with the promotion of the Marksman collection. This can be a non-traditional design or product for a traditional market. Although this seems to be a paradox, the challenge to realise this is yours. Aim. Pollyflame International wants to give prospective designers, who are talented and ambitious, the opportunity to work on a practical case. Pollyflame International expects that the competition will render a design that can be used in the Marksman collection. If the winning design can be produced, the designer will go to Asia to view the production process. This is your chance to establish your name even before graduation! Eligibility. Only students in the higher vocational and academic level, particularly from the studies industrial design and graphical design, can participate in this competition. If you are in one of these two studies or a similar course, you can enroll in the contest. Prize money: The main prize of the Marksman Design Award is US $10,000. The second prize is US $2,500, the third prize is US $1,000. The jury has the right to award up to five honourable mentions, of US $500 each. Committee of Recommendation. The Marksman Design Award is supported by a Committee of Recommendation which consists of the following members: Mrs. Hedy d'Ancona, former Dutch minister of Culture and member of the European Parliament; Mrs. Anne Stenros, director of Design Forum Finland; Mr. Ron Kemnitzer, well-respected professor of industrial design at the University of Kansas and principal of Kemnitzer Design; and Mr. Friso Kramer, well-known industrial designer, former board member of the Rietveld Academy. Prize giving ceremony and exhibition. A qualified international jury will choose the winning designs from the entries in June 2000. After the jury has announced the winners, the submitted designs will be in a travelling exhibition, visiting various places all over the world.
