KEN PON, an ancient hand game of rock-paper-scissors, symbolizes both the spirit, theme
and the categories of this competition. We are seeking designs of small objects used by
the hand, made from paper, wood, ceramic and/or metal. Sponsors consist of the Gifu
Government, and leading local Gifu industries, where your designs will be considered for
future prototypes. THEME "IN OUR HANDS" CATEGORIES The competition is divided into the following mediums: Paper, Wood, Ceramic and/or Metal. Please indicate on the entry form in which category you wish to participate. ELIGIBILITY The World Design Competition is open to the public of all design disciplines: including students, professors, and professionals. Students must provide on the entry form establishing proof of student status. CRITERIA 1. Good original design, creative, unique, and aesthetic. 2. All designs must be usable by the hands or fit in the hands. 3. Of the four mediums, one or more must be used. 4. Cost effectiveness and manufacturing feasibility are factors. 5. All entries must include precise production specifications, measurements, and tolerances necessary for manufacturing purposes. You may submit as many boards as necessary for your design. Digital formats in Mac compatible disk or Zip drive, plus models are optional; submissions will not be returned. AWARDS Grand Prix $10,000 (1) Second Prize $ 5,000 (1) Third Prize $ 2,500 (1) Honorable Mention $ 500 (5) Manufacturer Awards TBA NO ENTRY FEES JURORS Winners will be chosen by internationally renown judges. The judging panel's decision will be announced during the month of August 2000, and the judging panel's decision will be final.
