Type: International Interior Design Competition


OBJECT

On the occasion of the 17th International Biennial INTERIEUR 2000 , the organising committee, Interieur Foundation, will award several prizes to projects which constitute a creative contribution to interior design (private and public). These must not yet be in production at the time of the opening date of the Biennial (13 October 2000).


PARTICIPANTS

The competition is open to all designers , groups of designers , students and educational institutions . Each participant is allowed to present three projects at most .


SELECTION CRITERIA

The level of formal and technological innovation
The value as a contribution to interior design on a cultural, social, ecological and aesthetic level
Feasibility and technical nature
Quality of presentation
Choice of materials
A number of prizes will be awarded in function of the product specification by the prize sponsors.


ENTRIES AND CALENDER

15 July 2000
Registration deadline (Postmark serves as proof.)

Entries are accepted only when

1. the ENTRY FORM 1 (may be copied) has been returned together with:
2. a description in English of max. one typed page Din A4 (210 x 297 mm) with the identification number in the top right hand corner , which must also mention the dimensions and the weight of the prototype.
3. 3 slides per object ( 24 x 36 mm slides - to be framed without glass ) . The slides must be numbered in the order mentioned in the description in the top right hand
corner . Each slide frame must be ineffaceably marked with the identification number. These slides will not be returned.
4. the entry fee for the international competition is 100 EUR PER PROJECT . Payment of the participation should be made exclusively by international money order in euro by 15 July 2000 at the latest ( postmark serves as proof ) . The international money order coupon should list the full name and address as well as the identification number of the participant.

Registration entitles one:

to take part in the contest
to have his / her prototype put on display if the prototype was selected by the jury (no limitation as to the number of candidates)
to be listed by name in the official catalogue of INTERIEUR 2000
to enter the Biennial INTERIEUR 2000 (1 person)
to receive one copy of the catalogue of INTERIEUR 2000


Anonymity

The prototypes that are submitted will be presented to the jury in a totally anonymous way. For the sake of anonymity, the projects, slides and documents must not bear any sign but a 10 digit number , composed of the date of birth and 4 arbitrary figures. Each project has a different identification number. ENTRY FORM 1 must be filled outand should be put into a sealed envelope . The identification number must be listed on the envelope.

Receipt of prototypes

All projects have to be sent or brought to:

Each day between 9 a.m.-12 and from 2 p.m.-5 p.m . The prototypes can only be accepted at the above address as from 26 August. Projects scheduled to arrive a few days earlier should be sent or delivered to GEOLOGISTICS (LEP), to the attention of Mr Jan Hinnekens, Transportcentrum LAR B40 , B-8930 REKKEM (see also below).

The prototypes are to be accompanied by the ENTRY FORM 2.

The maximum volume should not exceed 2m3 , with a maximum weight of 65 kg, if not, the project must be made in a smaller scale . The projects are to be wrapped in RE-USABLE, IDENTIFIED materials ( this is not compulsory if the participant brings the prototype himself and comes to collect it afterwards). Note: ALL registered projects that were received in time will be presented to the jury . Consequently, the participants themselves must ensure their prototype is sent in with delivery no later than 1 September 2000. No selection rounds will take place prior to the jury meeting on 4 September 2000.

NO FORM OF WRITTEN OR VERBAL COMMUNICATION WILL BE ENTERED INTO
WITH REGARD TO THE RULES AND REGULATIONS OF THE COMPETITION.

Judging

The jury will select among the prototypes.
The judging concerns the prototypes and the decision of the jury is irrevocable.
The jury reserves the right to divide or to add up the prizes.
The jury is also allowed to award 'honourable mentions'.
Proclamation and publication of the results

Laureates will be contacted on 4 September after the judging. All other participants will receive a copy of the jury's report, as well as a written notice regarding selection for the exhibition . The proclamation will take place during the 17th Biennial INTERIEUR 2000 (13-22 October 2000). The results of the competition will be announced to the international press. The winning prototypes will be presented in the official catalogue of INTERIEUR 2000 and also on the Interieur Website. The organisers have the right to exhibit and publish the projects.

Exhibition

The jury reserves the right to decide on the selection for the exhibition .The selected entries will be exhibited at INTERIEUR 2000 , Kortrijk Xpo (De Hallen), unless the entrant has expressed his/her reservation in writing.


23-26 October 2000
Collection of prototypes

Upon the exhibition's conclusion, all entries will be placed at the disposal of the entrants:

for participants who come and collect their prototypes themselves: 23, 24, 25 and 26 October;
for transport and express delivery services: 25 and 26 October, between 9 a.m.-12 and 2 p.m.-5 p.m. at Kortrijk Xpo (De Hallen).
(Prototypes not selected for display can already be collected or sent back before 23 October if this is requested in writing ). Entries which were not collected on 26 October 2000 will be sent back to the owner at the expense of the participant.

The participants are in possession of a copy of ENTRY FORM 1.
The participants who have their prototypes delivered by a transport or express delivery service of their own choice, must contact that same service for collection of the prototype. The participant must urge the transport company to take good care of ALL the documents relating to the return of the prototype (including ATA document, if present, etc.). Return of prototypes by the Interieur Foundation is effected by the transport company GEOLOGISTICS (LEP). Participants are requested to contact this company to ensure the prompt return of their prototypes. Participants are also allowed to submit their prototypes through that same transport company (see also below).
In the event the entrant wishes his prototype never to be returned:
1. he should explicitly confirm this , in writing , to the Interieur Foundation, at the latest at the time of submitting the prototype.
2. he should also comply with customs regulations. Protection/Rights

The projects remain the property of the designers, whom we strongly advise to comply with the necessary formalities and registrations in accordance with the appropriate legislation concerning the protection of rights.

Responsibility

All charges of delivery , return , assurance , customs , V.A.T.-charges and patents , are chargeable to the participant. The participants themselves are fully responsible for any legal consequences concerning the protection against copyright and patent violations.
