3rd International Multi-Disciplinary Conference
THE BALKAN CITY - STAGE FOR THE END OF THE XX CENTURY

THE BALKAN CITY - STAGE FOR THE XXI CENTURY
Students competition

Yugoslav Performing Arts Association (YUSTAT) invites entries for the students competition "The Balkan City - Stage for the XXI Century". This competition is announced for the inclusion within the International Conference The Balkan City - Stage for the End of the XX Century which will take place in "Atelje 212" theatre in Belgrade from 14 - 16 September 2000. Both programmes are integral parts of the umbrella event titled 3rd Biennial of Stage Design, the most significant happening organised by YUSTAT.
The idea of Balkan cities at the boundaries of two millennia, their future cultural milieus and public urban life as the main subject of the competition, comes as a result of connecting this year's conference programme The Balkan City - Stage for the End of the XX Century with the competition. Namely, at the beginning of the 3rd millennium a considerable number of Balkan cities are becoming victims of destruction in a number of ways and degrees of brutality. Such disintegration equally affects physical and spiritual structure of the city. When considering performing arts, culture and urban life as criteria, students' competition "The Balkan City - Stage for the XXI Century" will look into the possibilities of overcoming the existing state of claustrophobia, material and spiritual crisis in the Balkans, including future inevitable transformation of their cultural maps.

This is why you should discover and: Express your own vision of the cultural and public life development in a Balkan city of the future;
what are the elements to make it both "Balkan" and "the city of future"?
