THE RED DOT AWARD: COMMUNICATION DESIGN





The red dot award: communication design competition is the continuation of the German Prize for Communications Design (DPKD) competition. The red dot award: communication design 2001 and the red dot award: junior prize communication design 2001 comprise a competition, a yearbook entry, a special exhibition and associated public relations activities.

The red dot: grand prix in the red dot award: communication design competition worth 10,000 euros is awarded by the Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen. The winner of the red dot: junior prize receives a prize of 2,500 euros. The event is organised by the Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen (hereinafter called "the organiser"), which is the contractual partner of the individuals and companies participating (hereinafter called "the participants").The location for the event is the Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen in Essen. Subsidiary presentations may also take place at other locations both in Germany and abroad. 


Entitlement to enter

Designers, agencies, design studios and clients for works of communication design from anywhere in the world are invited to enter the competition. Individuals, workgroups, businesses in trade, industry and the service sector, agencies and institutions are all entitled to submit entries. 

All kinds of contract work in communication design in any design technique which were completed in the period from 08 May 1999 to 08 May 2001 can be entered. Entrants can submit as many works as they wish. 



Awards 

Four awards are made in the "red dot award: communication design": 
red dot: grand prix
for the most outstanding achievement in all categories worth 10,000 euros. 
red dot: best of the best
for the best works in the individual categories
red dot
for the outstanding works in the individual categories
red dot: junior prize
worth 2,500 euros for the most outstanding student work

1 Advertising
TV or film spots, advertisements, campaigns, posters, brochures, sales prospectuses, catalogues, others 

2 Corporate communication
Business materials, corporate image, logos, exhibitions and trade fairs, self-presentations by agencies, others 

3 Financial communication
Going Public: advertisements, image brochures, sales and flotation prospectuses, web sites, TV spots and video films Being Public: annual and quarterly reports, ad hoc bulletins, web sites, online advertising, public/press relations work, others 

4 Product communication
Packaging, product graphics, instruction manuals, labels, others

5 Public areas
Leit- und Orientierungssysteme, Signets und Piktogramme, Elektronische Informationssysteme, Informationsdisplays, Sonstiges 

6 Printed valuables
Cheque cards, telephone cards, postage stamps, certificates, securities, banknotes, others 

7 Television and electronic media
Broadcasting station images, programme title sequences, computer graphics, trailers, animations, others 

8 Culture and sport
Posters, invitations, catalogues, event images, signets, exhibitions, others 

9 Publishing
Books, magazines, cards, CD and cassette covers, diaries, illustrations, others 

10 Multimedia
CD-ROMs, CD-Is, screen designs/home pages, interfaces, navigation systems
