| The "red dot award: product design" competition is the continuation of the "Design Innovations" competition. The overall project known as "red dot award: product design" comprises an annual competition, a yearbook entry, a special exhibition, the permanent International Design Exhibition, the Internet presentation and associated public relations activities. The overall project is organised by the Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen e.V. (hereinafter called "the organiser") domiciled in Essen. The organiser is the contractual partner of the companies and individuals participating (hereinafter called "the participants").The location for the main event is the Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen. Subsidiary projects may also take place at other locations both in Germany and abroad. Entitlement to enter All German and non-German manufacturers and designers whose products are manufactured in an industrial production process and were launched on the market within the past two years are invited to enter the competition. One-off craft artefacts are not eligible for entry. Entrants can submit as many products as they wish. Awards Two different awards are made in the "red dot award: product design": 1. red dot: best of the best for the best works in the individual categories 2. red dot for the outstanding works in the individual categories Assessment criteria Degree of innovation Functionality Formal quality Ergonomics Durability Symbolic and emotional content Product peripherals Self-explanatory quality Categories Entries to the competition are to be made in one of the eleven product groups: 1 Living rooms and bedrooms furniture, fittings, textiles, beds, floor coverings, lamps and luminaires 2 Households, kitchens and bathrooms Kitchen furnishings, household appliances and machines, glass, ceramics, china, bathroom fittings, sanitary facilities 3 Leisure, hobbies and sports Garden equipment and furniture, camping equipment, bags and luggage, photographic equipment, games, musical instruments, sports equipment, clothing and shoes, bicycles 4 Architecture and environment Heating and air conditioning systems, building components, switches, time clock systems, security systems, outdoor luminaires, windows, doors, building automation 5 Industry and crafts Machinery, plant, components, tools, engeneering systems, measuring and testing systems 6 Public spaces and traffic Vehicles of all kinds, vehicle accessoires, automotive engineering, aircraft, ships, urban furnishings, guidance and orientation systems 7 Trade and trade fairs Sales displays, shop furnishings and dظor, store and trade fair construction 8 Medicine and rehabilitation Medical equipment and machinery, laboratory equipment, medical furniture and sanitary equipment, aids 9 Offices and administration Office furniture, office equipment, reception and waiting areas, office accessoires 10 Media and home electronics Information and communications technology, television and video equipment, loudspeakers, telephones, answering machines, computers, servers, printers, monitors, remote controls 11 Jewellery, fashion and accessoires Spectacles, watches, pret-a-porter collections, bracelets, bags, belts, chains All the works are to be sent to the following address: red dot award: product design Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen Gelsenkirchener Strasse 181 / Zollverein D-45309 Essen Closing date for entries: 16 February 2001 More info: http://www.red-dot-award.com/english/rda/pd/index.html |
