The AIA Young Architects Forum, AGC's Young Constructors Forum, and Northeast Denver Housing Center have partnered to host a juried competition in conjunction with the 2001 AIA national convention, May 17-19, in Denver. This competition will have two categories. In accordance with the convention's theme, "Leaders and Partners in Creating Community," the design category will focus on an urban infill project in the historic Five Points Neighborhood of Denver. The constructor category will focus on affordable housing and community service projects.

Background
Design Category: The competition site is located at the eastern edge of the Five Points neighborhood, a roughly triangular area of 1,133 acres lying immediately northeast of downtown Denver, and is a vacant parcel made up of two lots. Northeast Denver Housing Center plans to develop the site for four to six units of residential with one to two units of commercial use. Competition submittals should explore the potentials of the development of an affordable or mixed income, residential or mixed use, replicable project for urban infill that is architecturally relevant.

Constructor Category: A qualifying project for the constructor category must have been completed in 2000 and meet the following criteria:
-Contractor's contribution to the community
-Contractor's state-of-the-art advancement
-Contractor's innovation in construction techniques or materials
-Sensitivity to environment and surroundings
-Positive industry image
