CANON DIGITAL CREATORS CONTEST 2001





The Canon Digital Creators Contest 2001 is open to next-generation creators who are pioneering new image expressions through their command of digital technology. Your novel and unique works are welcome in a wide range of categories, including digital photos, digital graphics and illustrations, digital movies, and Web graphics and images. Enter a new digital image that you alone can create.

Entry Categories

Digital Photos (Print) Division
Direct-print (unmodified) printouts of images captured with a digital camera; printouts of digital camera images that have been digitally modified; or printouts of digitalized photo materials (scanned images, etc.) that have been edited or otherwise modified. 

No size restriction, except that if original work is larger than A3 size, it must be accompanied by a smaller version, at A3 or smaller. 
Works may be mounted, but in any event should be packed sufficiently to avoid damage during transport. 
A single entry may consist of several components, in which case, layout instructions must be included. 
Indicate top and bottom of a work, particularly where this might be hard to determine otherwise. 
Each work should be identified by its title and the entrant's name on the reverse side. 

Digital Graphics and Illustrations (Print) Division
Printouts of computer-generated graphics, illustrations, etc. 

No size restriction, except that if original work is larger than A3 size, it must be accompanied by a smaller version, at A3 or smaller. 
Works may be mounted, but in any event should be packed sufficiently to avoid damage during transport. 
A single entry may consist of several components, in which case, layout instructions must be included. 
Indicate top and bottom of a work, particularly where this might be hard to determine otherwise. 
Each work should be identified by its title and the entrant's name on the reverse side.

Digital Movies Division
Modified and/or edited live-action digital movies created with a digital video camcorder; or computer graphics animated movie. 

Maximum duration per movie: 3 minutes 
Acceptable formats: digital video, VHS or S-VHS, or Beta-cam 
Title and the entrant's name must be clearly identified on the package of the media. 
The tape may contain only one entry; submitted work will be disqualified if other entries are recorded thereon. 
Allow about five seconds of blank (black image and the like) before recording the work on the tape.

Web Division
Web-based graphics or other images (interactive or non-interactive) viewable over the Internet using Internet Explorer 5.0 (or later versions), or of Netscape Navigator 4.7 (or later versions). 

To enable judging of Web Division works, entries must be made accessible between Wednesday, September 5 and Friday, November 30, 2001, at URLs specified at time of entry. Entries are not to be revised during this period. 
Entries are not to be revised at any time during that same period (exceptions being BBS, etc., updates). 
Judging will be made via various network environments, so that contents must be accessible even through dial-up IP connections.

Awards

Division Grand Prix (one winner per division) : JPY 3 million 
Excellence Award (one winner per division) : JPY 500,000 
Special Merit Award (five winners per division) : JPY 100,000 
Canon Award (five winners per division) : Canon products 

* Participating sponsor awards (Adobe Systems Award, Benetton Japan Award, and Macromedia Award) will be presented to entries in each division. 
* The tomato Award will be presented to one or more entries selected from among all divisions. 
* The Ryuichi Sakamoto Award will be presented to one entry selected from among all Canon Award winners. 

Entry Rules

NOTE: Entrants should read the following entry rules (the "Rules") carefully before submission of its entry/entries. Submission of entry/entries signifies that the entrant accepts the Rules. Canon Inc. (the "Organizer") reserves the right, at its discretion, to update or revise the Rules. Each entrant should check the most-updated version of the Rules and its submission and/or continued participation following the posting of any changes to the Rules constitutes acceptance of those changes. 

Qualifications
Submissions may be entered by individuals and by groups; the Contest is open to anyone regardless of age, sex or nationality, except for employees of Canon Group companies. 
The Contest is open to professional and amateur artists. 
Submitters must be the creator of the submitted work, holding the full copyright ownership therein. 
No more than one entry, per category, can be accepted from one entrant (whether individual or group). In case Organizer discovers that more than one entry are submitted by one entrant, all such entries will be disqualified. 
Some of the prizes may not be awarded in case the judges and special judges will conclude, in their sole opinion, that there is no entry appropriate thereto.

Entries
Entries must be original works that have not been previously published nor publicly displayed or exhibited.
* Works that have won a prize(s) in any other competitions in any nature are not eligible for entry. 
Works that Organizer deems, in its sole opinion, to be created for the purpose of being sold, or for sales promotion, or to be a direct or indirect result of commercial activity, are not eligible for entry. 
Submitted work must be digitally processed according to the specifications herein and any other specifications which Organizer may from time to time issue.

No submissions will be returned, and no notification of receipt shall be made.
