ARQUINE COMPETITION

International competition organized by Arquine magazine Mexico





On the site of Los Fuentes de Loreto and Guadalupe in the city of Puebla, México, where the Mexican troops defeated to the French troops on May 5th, 1862, its been developing an urban and ecological regeneration project, considering the actual existing buildings on the site (Natural History Museum, Regional Museum INAH (National History and Anthropology Institute), Planetarium and Auditorium of the Reform) and on developing the new extension (Science and Technological Development Museum, Scientific Ludic Childhood Garden, Regional Bio-diversity Garden, Recreational areas and sports area).

The competition site is on the main acces of the Renewed Regional, Cultural and Recreational Center, main focus of this competition is to gather the required program to renew and design the urban, architectural image of the Cultural Center. Thus the repetitive elements of the urban equipment included on the project, shall allow the total integration to all the Cultural and Recreative Zone of the 21st century. History, biological regeneration, sustainability and spaces that encourage to understand the past and imagine the future are the context of this project.

This competition is launched by Arquine magazine, in conjunction with the Government of the sate of Puebla (Cultural, Civic 5th of May Counsil, Architecure Museum of the INBA (National Beautiful Arts Institute) and the Puebla Architects College.



Programme

Main access design and vestibular zone to the Cultural and Recreational Zone of the Fortress (pavements. gardens, sidewalks, etc).
Info-Box Pavillion, which will contain updated information of the developing projects on the Cultural Center.
Main services area (rest rooms, telephones, etc.)
Urban furniture design (bench, bus stop, garbage cans, luminaires, signaling supports, kiosk, tables-dinning room)
* A complete detailed program will be given upon inscription to this competition.

Requirements
The 4th Arquine competition for the "Access to the zone of the Fortress of Puebla, Mexico" is open to architects, industrial designersm students and people involved with related disciplines. open to all Interntational and Mexican community.

Deadline
Deadline for inscriptions from September 7, 2001 to January 31, 2002.
Deadline for reception of projects: May 16, 2002. Jury meetings will be held to the end of March of the same year.
Awarded projects and jury selection will be published on the issue 20 of the Arquine magazine, June, 2002 issue.

Jury
- Sara Topelson - Curator of the Architecture Museum of INBA.
- Ernesto Betancourt - Winner of the competition Zócalo para la ciudad de México (downtown project for Mexico City) main site design and urban furniture design.
- Gerardo Balcázar - Architect from Puebla and works published on Arquine magazine.
- Pascual Salvador - Industrial Designer. Winner of the Delta de Oro to the best Industrial Design on Spain for the year 2000. 
- Javier Moreno - Architect and Designer of the urban furniture of the company EUMEX.

Prizes
1st prize. $30,000 pesos ($3000 US) Arquine magazine and no the Cultural and Civic 5th of May Counsil the project development of the architectural elements for the winner project.
2nd prize. Multimedia Pentium 4 computer. Sponsored by Lumen store $15 000 pesos ($1500 US).
3rd prize. Urban furniture prototype development.
Honorable Mentions. $3,000 ($300 US) on architecture books sponsored by Juan O'Gorman bookstore.

This competition shall not be declared cancelled. The winner projects will be published. on Arquine magazine June, 2002 issue. Projects will remain property of each participant and the copyright shall not be transfer to any third parties or individuals. Projects shall not be published previously untill the announcement of the winner have been made on june, 2002.

Entry fee
Inscription fee $400 (Mexican pesos) $60 USD (internacional).
A year suscription to Arquine magazine (4 issues) plus the inscription to the competition $540 (Mexican pesos) $100 USD (internacional).
Inscription receipt, and payment, shall be made before January 31, 2002 on the Juan O'Gorman Bookstore.
Upon reception of the receipt participants shall receive the complete information and detailed program.
