Near the Giza Pyramids, the new museum will pay homage to eternal Ancient Egyptian monuments, treasures, and history. The project aims to establish a state-of-the-art museum complex providing facilities and access to a broad range of information. Egypt, the centre of civilisation, art, and culture, offers its unique site neighbouring the Pyramids of Giza as a genius loci for such a cultural and architectural challenge that best addresses the world's Third Millennium and Egypt's Seventh Millennium. A strong visual linkage between the new museum site and the Pyramids themselves suggests architectural choices that will not waste the possibility of establishing a formal dialogue. The competition is organized in two phases. Phase one will begin May 2002 and end August 2002. The jury will select only twenty entrants who will pass on to the Second Phase. The Second Phase will begin November 2002 and end March 2003. The final winning projects in the Second Phase will be announced during the month of June 2003. The competition is open to all architects or teams led by architects with documentary evidence of their qualifications to practice architecture in their own country, or in the country of their residence, and therefore are authorized to take part in architectural design competitions at the date of registration for this competition. Prizes - First Stage: The 20 selected entrants will receive a prize of $10,000US each. - Second Stage: First prize: US$250,000 Second prize: US$150,000 Third prize: US$100,000 Also, a sum of US$200,000 will be distributed among Honorable Mentions at the discretion of the jury.
