Type: Open, RFQ Registration Deadline: February 19, 2002 Submission Deadline: May 7, 2002 Open to: All Entry Fee: None Awards: Design commission Jury: Anita Berrizbeitia, Galen Cranz, Richard Haag, Donlyn Lyndon, Edward Archuleta, Lucy Lippard and Carmella Padilla The Trust for Public Land (TPL) is sponsoring an international design competition for the development of a new park, alameda and plaza in the city's downtown core. These new civic spaces will encompass approximately 13 acres within the 50-acre, city-owned, Railyard property. The design competition will ask teams to provide solutions that realize the potential for urban parklands to strengthen and integrate our community and contribute to the social life of the city. Teams will be challenged to create beautiful spaces that have a striking visual character and, at the same time, invite people with diverse interests to visit, reflect, play and interact with one another. The winner of the competition will receive the opportunity to negotiate a contract with the Sponsor to prepare the detailed planning and design documents required for the phased development of these new public spaces. Implementation of the project is expected to extend over the next two to three years (though it is possible that some phasing of the project may extend over a longer period of time). Overall project costs will be an important consideration for prospective design teams. Current projections for funds that will be available for the project range from $4 to $6 million. TPL will favorably consider teams with the commitment and skill to develop solutions that meet the project budget and address a phased development schedule.
