| ROCKING-CHAIRS DESIGNBOOM and SOTHEBY’S-ITALY design competition |

| 01- the subject of the competition is: (remember newton's second law of motion ?) R O C K I N G - C H A I R S 02- design brief: you can combine any forms and materials as long as the - chair / easychair / armchair / sofa / stool or bench… - allows us to shift position in a gentle, soothing motion. a focus of the judging will be on how the participant translates one or more of the following: + concept (design as a form of communication, cultural critique…) + design (highly refined elegance, added comfort…) + innovation (new or unusual materials, manufacturing processes…) please note: this is a conceptual product design competition; anybody may participate. entries can not currently be in production. 03- awards and prize: 1 excellent design will receive a prize of 2 5 0 0 euro; 20 finalists will be awarded honourable mentions. a cd-rom will be produced for print and screen-based presentation. all finalists will receive copies for their own use. 04- members of the jury: paola antonelli, curator of the department of architecture and design MOMA, new york konstantin grcic, designer birgit lohmann, co-CEO / editor-in-chief designboom filippo lotti, managing director sotheby’s italy vico magistretti, architect and designer denis santachiara, designer 05- announcement of the results: designboom and sotheby’s italy will host an exhibition of the winning entries to be displayed in milan during the 2002 international design week (april 10-15, 2002). the exhibition will showcase the top twenty finalists and the history of rocking chairs. the award presentation will take place on friday april 12, 2002. winning designs will also be published on DESIGNBOOM.
