HOMES FOR LEARNING






The London Borough of Barking and Dagenham is to hold an open ideas competition to explore and develop the provisions of learning space within the home.

The Council hopes that the competition will bring forward designs that demonstrate innovative and creative concepts for the installation of a practical environment for learning/home working. The focus will be on the typical Becontree type cottage, located on the Becontree Estate (constructed during the 1920s and 1930s) in the Fanshawe ward of the Borough. Whilst many new homes built today have either a study or space where children and adults can learn/work, these homes lack such facilities.

The project is funded through the Government's Neighbourhood Renewal Fund, and is part of the Council's commitment to enhancing educational and social opportunities within the Borough.

The competition is open internationally to architects and students of the same discipline. The submission deadline will be Tuesday 16th April 2002. Further details on the competition and how to register are available from the RIBA Competitions at:
