| TAV - Treno Alta Velocitą S.p.A. (Gruppo Ferrovie dello Stato - Group Italian National Railways) have announced an architectural competition for the new AV Florence railway station. This will be the third competition held by the Gruppo Ferrovie dello Stato in about one year. The first, concerning the new Tiburtina station in Rome, has finished in december; the second, concerning the new Porta Susa station in Turin, has finished at the beginning of March. In Florence the Company will build a station for the new high speed trains which will cross the city underground. The new station will be located at about one kilometre from the old Michelucci's station of Santa Maria Novella and it will become the main station of Florence. The competition will be in two stages: 1. selection by curricula of ten architects who will submit their designs; 2. selection of the winner project which will be carried out in the next six years. Cost of the High Speed station: Euros 240,00,000.00. Prizes: The winner candidate will receive a prize of Euros 400,000.00. The non-winning candidates will each receive an expense refund of Euros 70,000.00. Delivery of the candidacy album for the preselection: Avril, 15th 2002.
