secretar@carlowcoco.ie The competition is an open two stage architectural competition for the design of for the architectural/design services for a National Centre for Contemporary Art. Carlow enjoys a national reputation as a centre for visual arts due mainly to the success of the annual Eigse Arts Festival which is now 25 years in existence. The Eigse Arts Festival which runs for a week every June is based in Carlow College and also uses the grounds immediate to the College to exhibit larger pieces of sculpture. Carlow Local Authorities, together with Carlow College and the organisers of the Eigse Festival wish to build on the foundations achieved through the annual Eigse Festival to develop a national centre for contemporary art in Carlow. The project budget for the centre including fees shall be between €5M and €7.5M exclusive of Value Added Tax. The competition will be held in two stages. Stage One is open to architects/architectural practices holding a qualification listed in the EC Architects Directive 85/384/EEC. It is the function of the Registrar to decide on eligibility. Approximately 3 to 7 participants will be selected for Stage 1, provided there is a sufficient number of suitable participants, to go forward to Stage Two and provide a more detailed design proposal. Each second stage entrant shall receive a prize premium of €10,000 for a valid submission. For the winning candidate, this will be an advance on the fee for executing the commission, if the development proceeds. PRIZE FUND €10,000 for a valid second stage submission. STAGE ONE SUBMISSION One A1 size sheet of information in horizontal format and a written report.
