REDDOT DESIGN AWARD: PRODUCT DESIGN 2003 |
||||
The red dot projects. Products with a red dot award not only gain international attention, they also attract purchasers in the consumer and business fields and clearly document their status as a benchmark. That is why the red dot is so highly coveted. Perhaps also because it is simply fascinating every time, again and again… The heart of the red dot design award is its jury. For it guarantees not only a high level of expertise but also the independence which is so important to the validity of the awards. In the red dot design award, therefore, it is inconceivable that jurors should vote for their own products. The jury is composed of international experts and changes from year to year. During a period of two weeks the jurors examine each of the products entered and deliberate on whether the decisive criteria for an award have been fulfilled. The adjudication is the moment when quality is revealed. The members of this year's jury for the "red dot award: product design" include: Prof. Werner Aisslinger Dr. Robert Ian Blaich Luigi Ferrara Roy Fleetwood Prof. Herman Hermsen Prof. Isao Hosoe Prof. Dr. Florian Hufnagl Ubald Klug Annette Lang Prof. Stefan Lengyel Prof. Glen Oliver Löw Michele de Lucchi Peter Maly Wolfgang K. Meyer-Hayoz Prof. Yrjö Sotamaa Volker Staab Andrew Summers Prof. Hannes Wettstein Helen Yardley Assessment criteria: Degree of innovation Functionality Formal quality Ergonomics Durability Symbolic and emotional content Product peripherals Self-explanatory quality Ecological soundness Award ceremony: 30 June 2003 The award ceremony is the finale of the competition. Last year, the gala of international design drew over 1,200 personalities from businesses, design, culture and politics into the Aalto-Theater in Essen. Together with the presentations of awards for the best of the best and the design team of the year, the visitors experience high quality musical performances. The cultural highlight is the show by the aalto ballett theater. In 2003, the motto for the evening is “The Spirit of Innovation”.
