CONDITIONS 2003 Promosedia
announces a competition for Ideas for Chair Design. Entries
should present ideas for indoor chairs for residential and contract
use, with a significant use of wood. The competition is open to: Architects and Designers under the age of 40 on 12th September 2003 and citizens of countries within the geographic area of Europe; Students duly enrolled in Tertiary Design Institutes and Faculties of Architecture within the geographic area of Europe. Entry
by a design school, or individual courses of industrial design is
also possible. In such cases the responsible head of the course becomes
the single designated person for communications as well as the only
person to collect possible awards. Group entry is also admissible.
In such case participants must designate a group leader by appropriate
declaration, signed by each group member, to be attached to the entry.
The group leader to be responsible for all purposes to the competition
organisers as well as being the only person entitled to collect possible
awards. The designs
entered must be original and previously unpublished, created expressly
for this competition. Non-compliance with such conditions will result
in exclusion from the competition or, in case the non-compliance should
only be established later, any possible awards shall be cancelled
and any prize-money, award etc. must be returned. Decisions by the
Panel of Judges are final and are not subject to appeal. Entry
is automatic with submission of competition documentation and no entry
fee is required. Each participant may submit no more than 2 designs. Entry must be anonymous. Entries must not bear the name(s) of the designer(s) in any part of the entry, on pain of disqualification. The designer must choose some name, phrase or code of identification, which must appear on all pages and on each individual drawing or photograph of the design. The identity of the participant(s) to be specified in a sealed plain envelope bearing only the chosen means of identification on the outside of the envelope and containing the following information typewritten: Students Professionals of the entrant &/or individuals of the group. The envelope must contain details of the group leader if applicable. Moreover
the envelope must contain declaration of acceptance of the use of
personal data, expressed as follows and duly signed: The sealed
envelope to be attached to the submission. All submissions must reach Promosedia SpA, Via Trieste 9/6, - 33044 Manzano (UD), Italy by 6 p.m. (18.00 hours) on Friday, 9th May 2003. Where
delivery is by mail or carrier, the postmark or consignment note will
be considered proof of compliance. In any case, documentation must
arrive within 7 days of the closing date. All entries arriving after
these dates will be disqualified. The Panel of Judges is made up of the following: - Enrico
Franzolini, designer; with the right of co-option by majority, should the need arise for substitutions etc., as well as a Secretary, with no voting rights, to act as administrator and co-ordinator. The Panel
will evaluate the entries submitted in accordance with the competition
rules and judge on the basis of originality as well as aesthetic and
functional aspects of the entry. 50% of the Panels members will
be considered a quorum for meetings. Decisions are deemed valid by
a majority of those present. Minutes will be kept of all decisions.
The Panel may decide to assign a lesser number of awards than those
indicated in art. 9. The Panel may, moreover, decide to present no
awards should no entry be judged valid or worthy of an award. Competition
winners will be notified by registered mail within 30 days of the
Panel of Judges finalising its decisions. 1st Prize
= 2,500 Euro (net amount after tax deduction) Promosedia will create prototypes of both the winning entries and the selected projects. These will be on display at the Promosedia - 27th International Chair Exhibition (12th 15th September, 2003) and will be published in a special catalogue. The prototypes may later be displayed at other venues with no reference to or authorisation from the designers. Promosedia
may decide to allocate special recognition to one or more entries,
independently of the competition outcome, with due regard to recommendations
by the Judges. Presentation
will take place during "Promosedia 27th International
Chair Exhibition" to be held in Udine from 12th to 15th September,
2003. Promosedia
is free to use images of the winning or selected designs in any of
its public relations and communication initiatives, the sole obligation
is acknowledgement of author or authors of the designs. Entry
material submitted will not be returned to entrants. The prototypes
will in all cases remain the property of Promosedia. Promosedia undertakes
not to transfer the property to any manufacturing company. Entrants,
whether award winners or not, retain property and intellectual rights
to their work(s). Authors of designs which could enter into production,
whether after, or independently of the competition, retain the right
to reach agreements &/or contracts directly with interested manufacturers.
Participation
in the competition presupposes total acceptance of these regulations.
In entering the competition the entrant agrees to the use of personal
