The
Chicago Architecture Club is pleased to announce the first Chicago
Prize Competition, a periodic 2-round design competition intended
to bring critical architectural thinking to bear on issues pertinent
to Chicago. Stop Go, Chicago Portal Project is co-sponsored by the
Chicago Architecture Club, the Chicago Chapter of the American Institute
of Architects, and Friends of Downtown. The program is for a new 1000
car parking garage and is drawn from the Central Area Plan, a masterplan
for Chicago's central business district (the Loop) and the adjacent
neighborhoods recently released in draft form by the City of Chicago
Department of Planning and Development. With more people living and
working in the city, vehicular traffic and parking have become and
will continue to be one of its primary challenges. The 2003 Chicago
Prize competition is an opportunity to inject this issue with fresh
vision and experimentation. The second round jury will be chaired
by Shigeru Ban, who will also be the keynote speaker at the award
ceremony.
