Florent Rougemont
Living architectures
Nederland 2000, 2’07”

A pod, a pace maker, a living organ, a sort of electronic heart under a continuous flux of information. Space and content, perpetually updated, form together a new architecture of information. The contraction and dilatation of skins create new shells of communication centred on a visual approach focused on the coming out and spreading of information. The shift from a traditional making up of text to a three-dimensional build up of space produces, by means of internet, a spatial and textual architecture: this emancipated space of information allows the readers, guided by the moving topography of media skins, to explore, through hyper text surfaces, the depth of the organ. Sensitive awareness of the void, of the transparent infinite information's space. This real time updated architecture is based on possible further developments of VRML or similar anticipated technologies involving fast network connections and powerful media player machines in order to interface actively both with space and information. Anticipated navigation by proxy sensors placed in the different levels generates new paths of virtual interaction between person and space. It also opens new possibilities for personalised browsing. The fluid and freed journey to the very core of information offered by this infinite text's space, gives an other face to the always promised and forecast future ‘highways of information’. This computing digestion takes place at the boundary of real and virtual world. Mixing pure information and complete visual media gives way to mysterious living architectures.

Florent Rougemont. Young architect graduated in Strasbourg's architecture school in 1998, he has collaborated with different architects in France, Georges Heintz and Rudy Ricciotti. He’s currently working in Holland, at EEA Rotterdam. The main orientation of his present work develops new projects for living and interacting with our contemporary world. It is turned towards new techniques and aware of the actual world. The architectural researches are orientated towards liquid spaces and other similar spaces implying physical proximity to water or more immaterial substances such as fluid plastics. Through works involving polymers and plastic's specific properties in different domains of application (architecture, industrial design, development of interactive objects using media skins, new internet 3d interfaces and plastic objects) particular atmospheres and interactions are generated. Appealing to our sensitive side, those spectacular and interactive installations combine simple and sophisticated technologies.
