Roberto Zancan
Paziente 37
Italy 2000, 2’37”

“Paziente 37” is a clip that belongs to the “Degenti Archive” series, (“degenti” meaning bedridden). It is a clinical project about the industrial area in Porto Maghera, created by the zD6 and by the audio studio PUK. This project, launched in April 2000, involves people who are living, are active or used to work, in the area of Porto Maghera. The objective is to interpret, through the production of documentaries or Tv series created on the basis of stories or reports of difficult situations, the changes occurring in the area and in the society of Porto Maghera.

Roberto Zancan was born in 1964. Graduate at the Venice Institute of Architecture (IUAV) with a thesis about the transformation of the urban image of Paris by the "grands projects" and president François Mitterand’s cultural policy for the capital city. After a long permanence in France he obtained a Master (CEAA-Certificat d'Etudes Approfondies en Architecture) in Jardins et Paysages Historiques at the Ecole Superiore de Paysages and the Ecole d'Architecture de Paris-Versailles. He also did a Ph.D. in Urban Design at IUAV with a dissertation about the construction of the concept of space in the Italian urban and architectural culture during the forties. He also obtained a Post-Doctoral fellowship at the Polytechnic of Bari for a trans-disciplinary research about the relationships between cinema and urban design theories. He is also a visiting professor of Urban Design at the School of Architecture of the University of Catania in Syracuse and a didactic collaborator at the Department of Urban Design of IUAV. After working for some of the most important Italian Master plan experiences, (Bergamo, Prato, Venice), since 1999 he is one of the owner-members of zD6, an office for the creation of several urban culture products like videos, architectural and large scale projects, buildings, graphics, etc. in the industrial district of Venice. With zD6 and with others partners he has received a number of prizes in national and international design competitions.
