Jang Yoon Gyoo
Another Genetic Manipulation
Korea 2000

In semiotic fields. Invisible semiotic layer (New Urban Layer). In mega-cities, today, there is no boundary between the inside and the outside. Therefore, the question is whether the physical structure of these metropolis can be meaningful to us or not. As the city has already been transformed by invisible structures, such as information, images, and media, we need a new device controlling and integrating these invisible elements of the city. Attractor in semiotic fields (Rehabilitation of Urban Life). The city must be filled with new organisms accelerated by the power of vitality as necessary elements. The only solution for these problems is the creation of a dynamic and organic object not related to the already existing urban structure. This new genetic structure is not a resolution of the physical urban fabric, but a transformation based on mental reaction toward the city. Attractor's reaction (Floating Organism). So this proposal is not to recompose the urban structure through the existing methods of urbanism, but to image a new possibility of development of the city. It is composed of rehabilitating and active floating organisms. This floating organism is a new gene that will be able to revive and rehabilitate old urban fabrics, because it is also made up of the biological cells of living bodies. Ultimately this new gene produces new urban skins, codes, and layers that can subsequently react with one another.
