Emir Jelkic, Katja Šoltes
Kako se kace fountain? / How do you say česma?
Slovenia, 9’05”

This story could happen. To anybody. To any city. The perception of a city an organism has is one of the most intimate experiences in the city-man relationship. When an organism perceives another, the process of identification begins. The difference between the sizes of the two is crucial to the duration of mutual identification. A memory of a city consists of a series of static images, the frozen moments of architecture and faces – it is never a complete whole. A memory of a man, of a woman? Details of hands, the tone of the voice, the eyes, the smell - but also a silhouette. The perception of a city through the eyes of a runner, compared to the one of a person who walks, is the same as the comparison between a film and a photography. The moving pictures of a city are always slightly blurred, always more elusive, due to runner’s bodily strain and faster movement. The architecture suddenly loses its tectonics and becomes a dynamic impression, its different landscapes are merging into one another - the process of identification is therefore much faster. Experiencing a city through the eyes of a runner is a story about an intimate sensation of a complete whole, about a silhouette of a city and a silhouette of a man within.
