Museum of Contemporary Art on Lazzaretto Vecchio, Venice / first prize in the international competition for students 'New Island around Venice'. The project's focus is on the open space. It is organized in stepped 'terraces' over-looking the Laguna. Part of the island has been cut away to place a public mooring and a new window, like building, framing the landscape. A new pavilion for temporary exhibition illuminated by a glazed perimeter opening on the water level marks the relation between water and light so peculiar in Venice. New I.U.A.V. Building at San Basilio, Venice / second phase selected project / with Janne Vesterinen and Andrea Boschi. In the collective imagination the ship is audacious, challenging, adventurous and change. The project consists of three hulls sailing on the sea. The sand of the sea floor is the beach that unifies the whole project area; it is an open stage for exhibition and other happenings. The triangular 'campiello' in front of the projected building and the transparent suspended square, connected with the roof-ramp garden, have been planned to allow an urban relationship with the surroundings.
