Carlo Berarducci. Church of "S.Agostino di Canterbury e Nostra Signora del Suffragio" 1992-1999

[in italiano] The Parish Complex of S.Agostino di Canterbury and Nostra Signora del Suffragio is situated in the east of Rome, in the outer suburb of Torre Maura and inside the great ring road. From its higher position the Church dominates a vast area of the Roman countryside, still preserved, thanks to the presence of archaeological remains, ancient Roman aqueducts and medieval towers. The complex consists of two volumes with distinct funcions. The first, a long porticoed construction which contains the rectory and parish offices, runs across the site incorporating the steep gradients. The second is the quadrilateral consecrated consecrated building.

Plan
The Church is composed of four rectangular and four round towers. The rectangular ones are taller than the round ones and acts as "canon lumiere" , openins for light and air placed above the roof covering to provide light for the presbytery and the entrances. The exterior features two principal materials: brick, in which the entire building is clad; and metal, (alluminium and zinc galvanized iron), used for the fittings, the structure supporting the bells and the main gates. Inside the only material employed is cement used in various ways.
