2A+P. Swamp. Project for the Ecocenter at the Nakdong River

[in italiano] Swamp is a project about the possibilities of interaction between the environment and the habitable space.

The surrounding background and its characteristics corrupt architecture with a Hyper-local behavior, it's a hybridization between the most intimate aspects of the spot and the characteristics of the program of the project. Searching for an harmony between man and environment and for a blending between natural and artificial, in a process of hybridization with the landscape, the territory, as a reactive skin, absorbs the space and its functions, thus to erase every chance of over-imposition of the architecture on the place.
[28oct2004]

A thick bed of reeds is structure, breathing and natural illumination system.

The strategy is to make a construction that doesn't cause any damage to the nature of the place letting the natural system maintaining its actual arrangement. A building capable to use natural resources, from an energetically sustainable point of view, and that at the same time doesn't produce any waste.

A waste water threatment system purifies greywaters.

The continuous movements of the soil and the weak resistance of the ground push the project to desert its presence, thus to be inserted in the ground.
That's why the structure of the building lacks of foundation and is immerged in the soil as a bowl, thus to react to the push of ground. It's centre, holed at the same level of the river, is in continuity with the natural ground. Tense artificial reeds, as the roots of a plant, acts to make a consolidation and holding up the roofing. They are allowed to make the building breathing through a natural system integrated with an artificial one working thanks to aspiration fans.

Indoor area: a sort of inhabitable greenhouse allows people to experience natural manifestations.

Natural filamentous surfaces are stands for exhibition display.

Outdoor area: without obstacle is a special point of view to watch changings of the close landscape.

To the surface, as a sheet of water, a technological membrane expands in the site. The roofing is a mesh composed by triangular panels that absorbs the solar energy, light is filtered through glasses with different shades of opacity and then is absorbed by semi and non transparent photovoltaic panels. Just like the surfaces of water it produces a deformed image of the submerged world.
The slight slope of the roofing allows the collecting of the rainwater that is piped in the indoor recycling system connected to the outdoor waste water treatment where the water of the damp ground of seafront is received. The final part of the purification process is made in the swampy land exhibition thus to satisfy the water need of the Eco-Center.

A ring structure floats without foundations reacting to the sandy soil thrust.

The sand dune mutates in a livable swamp, it's a hypogeum space that represents the making of a microclimate in the deep ground. It's a livable greenhouse that is closely connected with the natural environment where the visitors dives reaching the level of water. An under ground exploration experience in the exhibition space.
An invisible architecture lacking of any formal value, an organic system, an operative laboratory to study the ecological and environmental conditions of the Nakdong River.

2A+P is a workgroup established in 1998. It starts from the idea of architecture as an "inclusivist" discipline, capable to find operative logics in different fields such as art, philosophy, cinema, science... The topics of this research are the relationships between man, the body, home, the environment, the city and nature. Research is developed through theoretical investigations linked to editorial productions and experimental projects. Since 2000 the group partecipate to the nicole_fvr laboratory.
