Parade and Mayor's Walk Urban Design Competition
Kilkenny Corporation and Kilkenny County Council are promoting a one stage
architectural competition for the restoration and improvement of the
existing Parade and Mayor's Walk area, adjacent to Kilkenny Castle.
The Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland, 8 Merrion Square North,

Registrar) has been retained to co-ordinate the competition.
The competition is open to architects, landscape architects, planners,
urban designers and artists in the EU. The Promoters are seeking designers
who will be responsible for the design and who can secure the realisation
of that design through the mechanism of a conventional building contract.
The assessors would consider a collaborative approach to be the most
appropriate for this project.
There is a prize fund of £10,000 : £5,000 shall be paid to the winning
entry and the balance shall be distributed at the discretion of the
Assessors. The project budget is IR£700,000 and closing date for submission
of entries is the 31 August 1999. Briefing information is available from
