Entry Fee: n/a Awards: n/a Jury: A representative of the National Capital Authority; Three representatives of the sponsor group; A representative of the Old Parliament House Council;and Two art advisers. Description of competition subject: The document known as Magna Carta has long been a potent symbol of freedom under the law for western civilisation. On 15 June 1215, at Runnymede Meadows beside the Thames in England, King John met his barons to discuss their grievances. In order to prevent civil war he agreed to seal a great Charter, Magna Carta. The principles and subsequent interpretations of the Charter have had a profound and significant influence on the rights and freedoms of people not only in England, but across much of the world. The site for the commemorative place is a one hectare semi circle parkland in Canberra's Parliamentary Zone.
