THE 2000
STEEDMAN FELLOWSHIP IN ARCHITECTURE INTERNATIONAL DESIGN COMPETITION Bridging the Gap Architecture in the Shadow of the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial Arch Washington University School of Architecture in St. Louis bi-annually organizes The Steedman Fellowship in Architecture International Design Competition. This year's design competition (which is open to graduates from all countries of accredited degree programs in architecture) is chaired by Will Bruder, and titled "Bridging the Gap - Architecture in the shadow of the Arch." Entrants submit both their competition entry and a proposal for research. The winner of the competition will receive a $20,000.00 traveling Fellowship. The program for this year's Steedman Fellowship in Architecture International Design Competition involves ideas for reconnecting Eero Saarinen's Jefferson Memorial Arch and its park with the downtown district of St. Louis, Missouri (bridging the 'trench'of Interstate Highway 70), and providing a proposal for a Museum of American Architecture. The competition advisor and members of an international design jury of architects and designers will meet at Washington University School of Architecture in St. Louis, in February of 2000 to select the competition winner. The $20,000.00 Fellowship is based both on the quality of the selected winner's competition design entry and their research proposal. Citizens of all countries are encouraged to compete for the Steedman Fellowship. Candidates must be graduates of an accredited school of architecture, and be currently employed in, or have completed at least one year of practical experience in the office of a practicing architect. Candidates are eligible to compete for up to eight years after receipt of their professional degrees, regardless of age.
