New
opera house in Oslo Type: open international Organizer: The Norwegian parliament Open to: all Prize: To be announced Deadline for registration: 16mar2000 Deadline for entries: 16mar2000 Entry fee: NOK 5,000 The Norwegian parliament recently approved the construction of a new opera house in Oslo, in a decision that represents a major political boost for opera and ballet in Norway. The building is to occupy a detached location beside the fjord at Bjørvika, at the heart of Oslo's waterfront. The opera house will be the largest building for the performing arts ever erected in Norway. Statsbygg has been instructed by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs to announce an international architectural competition for the project in the late autumn of 1999. Entrants will be asked to submit designs for a building occupying approximately 35,000 m2.
