Zangrilli Design is a Philadelphia based company that is adding a design/build/development aspect to the firm. We are holding our first residential design competition to explore a different approach to an area that is currently undergoing extreme growth. The area is Naples, Florida, USA. Builders and developers are producing very poorly designed and constructed buildings at a record pace. Zangrilli Design owns property in the area and is presently trying to acquire more property for a greater visual impact. Our ultimate goal is to start with one or two interesting projects and open the public's eyes and to put this area on the map as a place with a sense of artistic culture. The area has many incredible attributes as far as landscape, economic reserves and cultural diversity among its inhabitants. Many of the visitors and year round population are from all regions of Europe. We envision this small area of interesting architectural objects (in the future) getting a great deal of attention and ultimately drawing the interest of Architects that are more sensitive to design.

Some suggestions for approach:
1. Disregard all references to context.

2. Explore uses of different materials, not just materials currently being used (which is mainly stucco).

3. Adhere to general lot set back and height requirements.

Lot Size: 50'-0" x 110'-0".
7'-0" set back on the sides of lot, 35' set back @ front of lot and 25'-0" set back at rear of lot. 35'-0" is the overall height requirement.

4. Be creative and inventive with this project.

Location and site: Naples, Florida, USA
Naples Florida is located on the Southwest coast of Florida with the Gulf of Mexico as one of its borders.

It is currently an area of incredible growth, both residential and commercial. A majority of the new construction is very mundane and uninteresting townhouses, condominiums or commercial strip mall buildings.

The actual competition site is in an area called Naples Park. Naples Park is a small area, approximately 1.5 Sq. miles, that is one of the few undeveloped areas. The area is comprised mainly of one story residential buildings with stucco exteriors.

The building site is a vacant lot on the north perimeter of the Naples Park Community. To the west, approximately one mile, is the Gulf of Mexico w/ public beach access. To the North is the main avenue to the beach. Across the avenue is a public school and upper middle class residential. To the east is route 41, which is the main avenue towards old Naples and the majority of commercial activity. To the South is the main field of the existing Naples Park residential buildings. The site gets incredible exposure to all travelling to the beach as well as just travelling about the town.

Requirements:
All work is to be completed on no more than (2)18" X 24" compositions. The sheets may be mounted on boards or rolled, please do not fold.

Drawings, photos, copies etc. do not have to be finished presentation quality submissions. This is an ideas competition, the ideas are far more important than the quality of a rendering.

Models may be photographed and used in a composition. Please do not send actual models.

Actual construction details do not have to be figured out. The ideas, concepts etc. are more important for this phase.

Use any medium you wish to convey you ideas as long as it fits with in a 2-dimensional 18"x 24" composition on one to two sheets.

NOTE: All submissions will be the property of Zangrilli Design and will not be returned. Entrance fees will not be returned. Winning entry will not guarantee construction of project. Zangrilli Design reserves the right to construct any or all parts of any or all submissions as Zangrilli Design desires.

Upon receiving the entry fee, Zangrilli Design will mail a local map of the area as well as the approved surveyed site document.
