Crabo group
Il gruppo aziendale con il patrocinio del Corso di Diploma in Disegno Industriale di Treviso (Istituto Universitario di Architettura di Venezia), promuove un concorso per la progettazione di un oggetto basato sull'innovazione tecnologica di un nuovo materiale: il "Chenna". Il gruppo aziendale, costituito da imprese coinvolte nella produzione di elementi per l'arredo, orienta la propria ricerca sperimentale verso soluzioni che integrano l'evoluzione produttiva e lo sviluppo sostenibile. Il concorso ha per finalità l'incremento di nuovi sbocchi produttivi, attraverso tipologie di oggetti innovative offrendo, al contempo, nuove opportunità per giovani designers.

Partecipanti
Possono partecipare al concorso tutti gli studenti universitari o di scuole di specializzazione inerenti al Disegno Industriale, che non abbiano superato il ventottesimo anno di età al momento della scadenza del presente bando

Tema
L'oggetto del concorso riguarda la definizione di possibili applicazioni del materiale "Chenna", nell'ambito del Disegno Industriale, con riferimento alle sue caratteristiche prestazionali: meccaniche, estetiche e chimico-fisiche (vedi allegato tecnico).

I candidati dovranno impadronirsi delle nozioni di produzione specifiche del materiale, per una completa aderenza agli obiettivi guida posti dall'azienda. Non sono posti vincoli di carattere tipologico sull'oggetto da progettare ma bensì, viene richiesta la congruenza del progetto con la producibilità e la commercializzazione dello stesso. I punti di forza del materiale riguardano l'elevato grado di malleabiltà e plasticità (in fase di lavorazione), le notevoli prestazioni meccaniche e infine la potenzialità per una facile e veloce reciclabilità.

Elaborati richiesti
I progetti vanno presentati su tavole in formato A3, per un massimo di tre unità montate su supporto rigido. Le tecniche di rappresentazione sono libere al fine di ottimizzare la resa grafica degli elaborati. Qualora fossero realizzati modelli di studio, ne potranno essere allegate le fotografie incluse nel formato dei disegni. II candidati possono presentare le proposte progettuali individualmente o in gruppi di due componenti al massimo.

Premiazione
1° Fase:
proclamazione di dieci finalisti entro il 20 Ottobre 2000 e realizzazione di un catalogo del concorso con i progetti significativi (la pubblicazione verrà ultimata a compimento dell'intero concorso).

2° Fase:
partecipazione dei dieci finalisti ad un workshop di 2 giorni in una sede del Gruppo Crabo con la presenza di docenti del Corso di Diploma in Disegno Industriale di Treviso e tecnici, al fine di perfezionare gli elaborati destinati alla valutazione finale.
La proclamazione dei vincitori avverrà nella prima metà di dicembre 2000. Seguirà la pubblicazione dei progetti vincitori in riviste specializzate (Domus; Modo)

3° premio 500 Euro

Anonimato
La partecipazione al concorso è anonima. Nessuna tavola di progetto potrà contenere in alcuna parte nomi o riferimenti all'autore ma unicamente un motto di identificazione, pena l'esclusione dal concorso. Il nome, l'indirizzo ed il numero di telefono dei concorrenti saranno contenuti in una busta chiusa allegata al progetto sull'esterno della quale sarà riportato lo stesso mottodi identificazione.

Termini e scadenze
Ogni partecipante al concorso può presentare al massimo due progetti. Gli interessati alla partecipazione del concorso sono invitati a presentare gli elaborati alla Segreteria del Concorso entro il 10 Settembre 2000 che assumono validità d'iscrizione . La consegna presso l'ufficio di segreteria della Crabo potrà avvenire per invio postale (saranno ritenute valide solo le proposte inoltrate entro la data sopra indicata con relativo timbro postale) o consegna diretta.

Giuria
La commissione giudicatrice sarà formata da esperti e protagonisti del mondo del Design e da alcuni rappresentanti del Gruppo Crabo.

La Giuria valuterà gli elaborati pervenuti e conformi al regolamento del presente bando sulla base dei valori innovativi ed estetico-funzionali del progetto.

La Giuria potrà deliberare di ridurre il numero di finalisti previsto al paragrafo "premiazione" del presente bando, qualora non fosse raggiunto il numero di progetti giudicati meritevoli per accedere alla seconda fase del concorso.

Diritti di produzione
I partecipanti al concorso, anche se premiati, mantengono la proprietà e il diritto di sfruttamento delle opere. Gli autori dei progetti che vengono messi in produzione dall'azienda successivamente al concorso, si potranno valere della facoltà di concordare l'ammontare delle proprie competenze con la stessa.

Crabo group
The Crabo Group under the patronage of the Diploma Course in Industrial Design, Treviso (Istituto Universitario di Architettura di Venezia) is promoting a competition for the design of an object based on the technological innovation of a new material: "Chenna" The business group, consisting of enterprises involved in the production of elements for interior design and furnishing, directs its own experimental research towards solutions which combine productive evolution with sustainable development. The competition's aim is to develop new outlets for production through innovative object typologies which offer fresh opportunities to young designers.

Participants
All university students or students of institutes for specialisation in fields pertaining to industrial design, who are not older than twenty eight years on the date of the deadline of this competition may participate.

Aim of the competition
The aim of the competition is the definition of possible applications of the material 'Chenna' in the field of industrial design, with reference to it's performance characteristics: whether mechanical, aesthetic or chemical - physical(see technical appendix in the site http://www.crabo.it/designcompetition.htm)

The candidates must master the process of production specific to the material for a more complete adherence to the guidelines set down by the group. There are no limits of a typological nature on the object to be designed, but it is required that there be a congruence between the project for the object and the means of producing and marketing it. The strong points of the material are it's high degree of malleability and plasticity (in the phase of working it), it's remarkable mechanical performance, and finally it's potential for swift and easy recycling.

Requirements
Submissions must be presented on A3 panels , with a maximum of three units, mounted on a rigid support. The techniques of representation are not prescribed , in order to optimise the graphic effectiveness of the panels. If study models are produced they can be enclosed in photographic form mounted within the A3 format. The candidates can submit their proposals as individuals or in groups of a maximum of two persons.

Prizes
1st phase:
ten finalists will be announced within the 20 October 2000, and a catalogue of the competition, containing all the significant projects, will be realised. (The publication will be completed by the end of the competition)

2nd phase
The ten finalists will participate in a 2 day workshop in one of the seats of the Crabo group, with the presence of the lecturers of the Diploma Course in Industrial Design in Treviso and of technicians, in order to perfect the projects selected for adjudication. The winners will be announced in the first half of December 2000 The winning projects will be published in specialised journals (Domus, Modo)

Anonimity
The participation in the competition is anonymous. The panels must not contain in any area names of or references to the author, but must only display a motto of identification, under penalty of disqualification from the competition. The name, surname and data of identification (namely address and contact telephone number) of the participant/s must be enclosed in a sealed envelope, on the outside of which the same motto of identification must appear, and be attached to the submission.

Deadlines and submission
Each participant in the competition can present a maximum of two projects. Those interested in participating are invited to present their entries to the Competition Secretary by 10th September 2000, and the validity of the participant's registration for the competition will be assumed. The entries can be submitted by post (only the entries with the above date on the postmark will be considered valid) or by hand. to Crabo's secretarial office.

The jury
The jury will be formed by experts and protagonists in the field of design, and certain representatives of the industrial sector of the Crabo group.

The jury will evaluate the entries which conform to the regulations of this brief, on the basis of the innovative and aesthetic-functional values of the project.

The jury can decide to reduce the number of finalists allotted in the paragraph 'prizes' in this brief in the case of there not being an adequate number of projects judged to be worthy of being promoted to the second phase of the competition.

Rights of production
The participants in the competition, even if awarded prizes, will maintain the rights of property and of use of the works. The authors of the projects that are put into production by the company after the competition, can avail themselves of the right to form an agreement with the company as to the total of the earnings.
