to submit viable solutions for inhabitants that can be set up quickly
and economically, and respect the environment and natural resources.
The goal of the competition is to collect innovative ideas and examples

the international community in our time, as in the past two decades
more than 200 million people are affected every year by natural disasters,
such as earthquakes, floods, landslides, droughts, wildfires, tropical
cyclones and associated storm surges, tsunami and volcanic eruptions,
causing the loss of human lives and the destruction of economic and
social infrastructures, as also serious damage to natural ecosystems.
A total of 70 000 Euro will be awarded to the various winners. The eleven-member,
international jury will award three prizes of 20 000, 15 000, and 10

Italia.
nuove grandi stazioni dell’Alta Velocità - Roma Tiburtina, Torino
Porta Susa, Firenze Belfiore, Napoli Afragola.
In giuria:
Stefano Boeri, Cristopher Zechner, Silvio D’Ascia e Carlo De Vito. Il
vincitore di ciascuna sezione riceverà un premio di 15.000,00

United Kingdom. The main purpose of this competition
is to give architectural students a creative vehicle for learning about
the use of steel in buildings. By taking part you will have the chance
to explore the complex issues surrounding the theme of how to live with
rising water levels and the ever-present threat of flood. The competition
is open to students of architecture in Europe. For both UK and overseas
students the competition brief is to address the theme of H2Ouse - living
on the water. Steel has been one of the most important materials used
in construction for the last 100 years or so. It has created a new architecture
through its qualities of flexibility and strength. In your submission
you are invited to explore the use of steel on a domestic scale – a
difficult balancing act between scale, weight and utility. Designing
in steel on a smaller scheme demands a light touch. There will be a
total of £5,000 for the winners to share. |

07 HOUSING - ARCHITECTURAL
COMPETITION. Open International Ideas Competition enti banditori: eVolo iscrizione entro il: 10 luglio 2007 consegna elaborati entro il: 17 luglio 2007 |
||||
USA. eVolo makes an international invitation to
take part in its third architectural competition and encourages the
exchange of architectural ideas amongst world designers on one of the
oldest architectural genres: Housing. The idea of the competition is
to provide new housing ideas that will improve, adapt, and transform
our society. Competitors are invited to re-think our needs for the XXI
Century taking in consideration economic, social and cultural conditions.
The architectural proposals should engage different scales, its integration
to the urban fabric and its responses to domestic life. The idea is
to produce new housing typologies that will blur the boundaries of our
society. There must be a dialogue between the public and the private,
permanent and temporal, wealthy and poor. Designs could explore the
restoration and improvement of an old neighborhood or the development
of a new one. Participants should research on new technologies and materials
that would make their proposals sustainable, ecological, progressive,
and innovative. There are no restrictions on site, program, and size.
The idea is to provide the maximum freedom to the designers to express
their creativity and design the new housing for the XXI Century. 1st

Canada. This is an open ideas competition; architects,
intern architects, designers and creative thinkers all around are invited
to submit proposals. Now that a significant percentage of our planet’s
inhabitants live in cities, more than ever it is essential that we ask
ourselves not only how shall we build these cities, but how are we to
dwell in them? Similarly, there has been much polemic regarding the
podium tower typology, specifically in the context of Vancouver, but
with little critical exploration of possible hybrids. This Competition
seeks to generate alternatives to the podium and tower – poto:type -
a now prevalent architectural typology in the city of Vancouver, and
to be a catalyst for critical public discourse aimed at improving Vancouver’s
downtown core by generating and displaying alternative building typologies.
It is a call to action, to reengage in the shaping of the city, and
an opportunity for the dissemination of architectural ideas to the public.

USA. Open to all. Over the past 15 years, downtown
Charlottesville, Virginia has experienced an ongoing renaissance. New
businesses, restaurants, theaters and residences abound in renovated
buildings and new developments alike. However, two full city blocks
lie underutilized just one block south of Charlottesville's renowned
pedestrian mall. This site, currently used for parking, hosts the popular
Charlottesville City Market on spring and summer weekends and is widely
regarded as the most important "underdeveloped" site in the
city. Responding to a public call to craft a vision for the future of
the site, the City of Charlottesville is sponsoring MARKET VALUE, a
design competition that will help Charlottesville proactively investigate
and establish the best alternatives for development. Directed by the
City of Charlottesville in partnership with the Charlottesville Community
Design Center and AIA Central Virginia, MARKET VALUE is seeking realistic,
innovative models for mixed-use development -- ones that not only yield
financial returns for a future developer of the site, but also provide
a "return on investment" to the public good by attending to
issues of civic space, connectivity, affordable housing and green building.

In giuria: Angelo
