The second summer Institute in Digital Media (I-dMedia) at the University of Illinois at Chicago, School of Architecture, will convene from July 9th to 20th 2001.

Sponsored by the School of Architecture and the College of Architecture and the Arts, the I-dMEDIA will bring together faculty from UIC's Concentration Curriculum in Digital Media, Ammar Eloueini and Doug Garofalo, with national and international visiting scholars, practitioners and students. I-dMedia will provide students the opportunity to work with leading innovators during a 10 day intensive seminar/studio experience in Chicago. The new Advanced CAD Laboratory at UIC has the latest hardware and software in digital media.

Celine Bessac, Pierre Bonnard. I-dMedia 2000.

Una Moon. I-dMedia 2000.

I-dMedia will be based on an extensive use of digital technologies to address questions regarding the relationship between actual and virtual environments. The students will be challenged to investigate what Paul Virilio called "Stereo-reality". I-dMedia will be project-based with an emphasis on the complex relationships between thinking through emerging forms of electronic fields and current architectural production. During the two week institute of intensive study and collaboration, each student will work at an individual workstation (Silicon Graphics or High end PC), with the most innovative softwares (Maya, Softimage) and will have access to laser cut and vaccum-form machines.

I-dMedia will meet each morning in the Advanced Computer Laboratory at the School of Architecture for seminars, and in the afternoon for studio work.

The work will culminate in the production of a project exhibition, gallery discussion and the subsequent creation of a website. Experience with digital media is recommended, but not mandatory.
