Coex is interested in 'love'

architettura Coex
[in italiano] Living and studying in Hong Kong, Moscow, Barcelona, Coex experiences how the world is changing: people mix up, things meet and collide, public and private blend, relationships change and unpredicted tensions are established. Distance and proximity, compenetration, collision, contact and separation: Coex tries to explore the possibilities of a design approach which is almost indifferent to objects, but interested in the quality of their relationships. Coex is not really interested in how things are, but in the result of their relations. Example: I love you. Between I and you Coex is interested in love.

COEXISTENCE OF FUNCTIONS

The corridor is the bathroom is the library.
Coexistence as variable spaces.

The pub's canopy is the bowling track for the elderly.
Coexistence as superposition of uses.

Bocciofila "De Amicis" in Turin, 2002.

MHO – MAXIMUM HORIZONTAL PLANE

The floor is the living room is the table is the bed is the bathroom is the kitchen's counter is the bathtub is the wardrobe is the desk.
Coexistence as coincidence of planes. The project is the horizontal surface.

Flat3 in Turin, 2002.

DENSE PROJECT

The existing space is small and delicate: the project is compressed in a single volume.
Functions are concentrated in a dense space, the rest is free space.

Flat2 in Turin, 2001.

Flat4 in Turin, 2003. Section.
COEX PREEX – COEXISTENCE PREEXISTENCE

The wardrobe flies one meter above a precious floor.
Respect but challenge the existing.

COEX COMMON SENSE

Cook on the bathroom floor.
Common sense seldom helps Coex.

The young lawyer is afraid of sleeping on the bed overhanging on the staircase.
Coex goes for it and takes risks.

Flat2 in Turin, 2001.

EFFECT CLIENT

Flat1 in Turin, 2001. To the bed.
The client is a daysleeper: the entrance is directly connected to a womb like bedroom.
The client's personality becomes the project.

The client feels disquieted on mezzanines: Coex hangs real brick rooms to the ceiling.
Sometimes the solution is already there.

Flat5 in Turin, 2003. With Attilio Giaquinto.

The old antiquary wants a new space for his ancient Silver works: the shop becomes a rusted steel box.
Coexistence and contrast between the objects and their container.

Antiquary's shop in Rome, 2003.

The client is not very tall: the home is raised to allow the view from the high windows.
The most literal solution gives ironic results.

Flat3 in Turin, 2002.

The objects to be exposed in an exhibition about China are etherogeneous and don't have any relationship to each other: the exhibition design is a snake that swallows everything and takes its shape.
In China, it was the year of the Snake.

Design and Fashion exhibition in Pralormo (To), 2001.

You and me, what does that mean?
It means we’ll manage
I’ll master your language
And in the meantime I’ll create my own
By my own.
