The new space of virtuality, because it is space, has an architectonic structure. It follows compositive, organizational, aesthetic laws of the architectonic type. Through the computer, man has provided himself with a last genre of language: a communication channel that makes use of letters, images, sounds, in a almost total synesthesia, to put in contact the each one’s brains and thoughts. The Internet changes the language, and with it, architecture changes.

The architecture of the Internet, new-architecture like new-economy. Not only a question of ‘blob’, but something much more deeper that has to do with the dematerialization of architecture and of man himself. And it is not the form but the revolution in progress that we are interested in. Architects are the new cowboys of a Far West to be discovered and that, more than a desert, is a jungle. And they are not interested in the form, but in the possibility to animate architecture, to make it sentient, to let it become an organism, have it interact with us through its new electronic skin. Architecture as a new dress, as an automobile. The form will be only fashion.

It will be interesting to understand how the computer will be able to optimize what architecture has always done: be a bio-energetic barrier between inside and outside. In an ecological sense. It will be useful and it will be fun to comprehend that architecture can become a means for the new digital relationality, how the smashing of walls (hypersurface) will occur through virtual communication interfaces. Decisive will finally be, the industrialization, through information procedures and systems, of the construction of architectural components.

A chapter aside will be constituted by the researches that from now on will originate around the direct, immersion use of the web: three-dimensional spaces for the network, new tools for project co-operation, promotion of the architectonic culture through the Internet. It is on this last aspect that some pioneers of the sector will briefly concentrate on the occasion of this Festival.
