If the metropolis is the privileged place of contemporary communication, a large part of the sound and visual culture of out time, like the most interesting epigones of electronic research, are analyzable and can be “mapped” starting right from the urban context of production and on the basis of what we are told of the “world-cities”.

A careful analysis of the new forms of musical creation and of its genres, in addition to the visual flow that accompanies them, describes them or inspires them, provides new keys for a real-time reading of the urban ‘becoming’.

Besides, the digital audiovisual production is the language where present changes can be best read, because it is fit to represent a linguistic model, such as the metropolitan, which is most subject to the conflicting co-presence of others. The electronic technology allows a “sign” condensation that intensifies the representation of a city as the place of ‘viewing’ and ‘listening’ par excellence: aesthetics of the fragment, sign hypertrophy, temporality in constant acceleration are the characters that belong to the urban experience, easily assimilable to an expanded video that “plays” our cities and the architectures that leave their mark on them.

This new edition of eClipCity, after the one that last year was dedicated to the musical video clip, focuses the attention on the productions of some of the most interesting European realities in a journey that goes from the experimental films by Batofar and Light Cone to the digital clips of OneDotZero and D-Fuse. Audiovisual prototypes for the metropolis in fast-forward.
