A.polis + Ken Zimmerman (2 Form), In praise of silence, ITALIA 2002, 4'15''

Cinematic experiences of the city, accelerating social, economic and environmental changes, the immateriality and fast pace of communication, fleeting images on the screen have pushed us towards a dysfunctional hyperactivity of consciousness. An architecture purged by silence can awaken us to a new awareness of the environment and allow an intensification of our receptive faculties; it will allow, through a reduction of effects and loud visual episodes, to transcend the "frustrating selectivity of attention" which inevitably brings about distortions of experience; it will, with its silence, leave space to the creative faculties of the viewer, so as -to put it with W. Carlos Williams’s words– to “arouse his imagination and give him work to do.” It will not overwhelm us, but give us time to ponder.

A.polis
Paola Giaconia received her degree in Architecture from the Milan Polytechnic; recipient of a Fulbright grant, she moved to Los Angeles in 1996 where she collaborated with such architectural offices as Morphosis and RoTo. Gregory Taousson, Architecte D.P.L.G., studied in France at the School of Architecture of Languedoc-Roussillon and conducted research with the French CNRS. They both received their Master's Degree in Architecture from SCI-Arc and in 1999 founded A.polis. Ken Zimmerman studied architecture in Texas and received his Master’s Degree from SCI-Arc in 1999. He has developed 2 Form, where architectural previsualization and digital sets for film productions are created.
