architettura COEX, 100.000 in un km2, ITALIA 2001, 6'01''

The video was born from the research done by two of COEX's members: Subhash Mukerjee and Martina Tabò. This research, which supported their graduation thesis, was further developed with a series of articles and lessons at the Politecnico of Turin and at the Politecnico of Milan. The work represents the conclusions of an urban analysis lasting some months in Hong Kong. The 3D animation is utilized to represent a process of urban transformation over a period of time. The project proposes the progressive introduction of public areas inside the dense mass of buildings in the neighborhood of Mong Kok, through the introduction of small variations in the current development tendency. The animation has been utilized for its ability to express immediately a process, which otherwise would be very complicated to represent through static means.

Born in 1974, after the experiences of studying and working in Harvard, Barcelona, Oslo and Hong Kong, the architects Michele Bonino, Subhash Mukerjee, Federica Patti and Martina Tabò founded architettura COEX at the start of 2001 in Turin. Besides realizing interior design projects, the studio has also conducted researches on the urban scale. In the summer of 2001 COEX was invited to Uryupinsk in Russia to participate in a workshop for the re-qualification of the city center. The members of Coex are professor assistants in some design laboratories at the Politecnico of Turin.
