Andrea Bettinetti (IDVISION), Progetto Bicocca, ITALIA 2000, 4'24''

Descriptive and emotional images reveal the reality of Bicocca, one of the most important urban development projects in the northern area of the city of Milan in the year 2000. The short film has a rigorous style, with fixed, almost photographic images, slow camera movements and sudden accelerations. Its graphic layout intentionally recalls that of architecture magazines. On the portion of the screen which is not taken up by the film, flow historical images of Pirelli Bicocca. It is a walk through the streets and squares of Progetto Bicocca which allows us to pause upon buildings, spaces and perspectives in a balance that is firm and delicate at the same time, between solids and voids, volumes and colors that end in sudden openings. The Bicocca project, formerly Bicocca Pirelli, is a place of history that here was made and will continue to be made. Buildings and machines, life conditions and human relations back then; university, theater, research centers, tertiary and housing today. They remind the light and shadow, strength and melancholy of Sironi’s industrial suburbs.

Andrea Bettinetti (1962) received his diploma in Architecture from the Milan Polytechnic in 1987; he later moved to London to study at the London International Film School. After completing his studies, he remained in London to work as a set designer, assistant director and director for commercials, video clips and short films. Since 1995 he has been working in Italy as a free-lance director.
