Reiner Görß, POTSPLATZ, DEUTSCHLAND 2001, 13'35''

It is clear to everyone today that the view of the city is not concerned anymore with residence (instead international capital looks at the construction of buildings or even "Loisir" neighborhoods which are able to guarantee a major return from the invested capital ) and that state capital is invested in government buildings. "Potzplatz" alludes to the grand intervention, operated by the private capital of Mercedes and Sony on "Potsdamer Platz-the biggest construction site in Europe" which since the 1920s has been a synonym for the modernity of Berlin. An investment of 4 billion German marks for global architecture, for an island that is narcissistically mirrored in itself, in a first class media event where the only concrete gesture of architecture was the initial sketch of Renzo Piano, flowing from his pen as naturally as the smoke from his cigar, which Görß democratically lets off at the old underground of Potsdamer Platz.

Born in Neustrelitz in 1960, Reiner Görß studied sculpture, stage design, painting and graphic design at the Kunsthochschule of Berlin and Dresda. Since 1990 he lives and works in Berlin and Italy.
