Ania Krenz, Living in the city, POLSKA 2000, 7'41'' This film was made for the Biennale of Architecture in Cracow 2000, as a part of the competition "Beauty, Ethics and Ecology". The main idea was a reflection upon contemporary lifestyles, based on consumerism, globalisation and mobility, in cities which are being adjusted to that, especially to the car transport. We try to follow a daily routine of an average polish person, an inhabitant of a city, who drives from his pathological dwelling in a block of flat (M2) to the inner city to work, then he goes for his weekend favourite activity -supermarket- where he spends hours on choosing from one chemical erzatz to another - E130, E250, E588... Another issue is the urban ground, covered by sealed surfaces, which do not allow the Earth to breathe. Highways, paved markets and streets... We long for green, natural environment, therefore we create our own 16 square meters of grass on the main public square in Poznan, which used to be a green space in the 19th century. Our own initiative brings green to the city as a metaphor of longing and hope for a change. Ania Krenz [Sinus_3] is a graduate of the department of Architecture at the University of Technology, Poznan (1995-2001) and a graduate of the MA Program "Energy, Environment & Sustainable Design" at the Architectural Association, London (2000-2001). She is also a freelance journalist ("Architektura - Murator", "Architektura & Biznes"). Her interests are: architecture, art, environment and media. |
