Thomas Meyer (archimation), MCA+MIC Sydney, GERMANY 2001, 3'15''

The major idea is the contrast between a very charming screen surface, aestethically related to Sauerbruch Hutton Architects' design philosophy, with well tuned color patterns and slightly coloured or shaded wireframe animations, and the three key-shots of photorealistic renderings, composited with real footage of the sourroundings. The storyboard goes like this: abstracted aerial view of Sydney Cove, highlighting the new MCA+MIC, diving into George Street, transformation from wireframe to real footage compositing, showing the different elements of the building entering it on George Street level, transformation from wireframe to real footage compositing, showing the quality and atmosphere of the large interior space in relationship to Cadmans Cottage and Sydney Cove panorama with the Opera House, walk through Harbour Gallery, visualising different elements and functions inside the building, view from the Opera platform towards the Downtown skyline, changing light, the day fades into night, city lights come up, the new MCA+MIC building starts to glow...

Formed in 1993, archimation is an architectural practice and digital media company providing visual communication for architects and all who are involved with the creation of tomorrow's built environment. Having studied in Zürich and Berlin, Thomas Meyer finished his education as an architect at the TU Berlin. He then shifted to the presentation of architecture, working with film, video and computer animation before joining archimation in 1997.
