SYNTAX [medi(a)rchitecture], Arenc: 'Les trois ìlots, ITALIA 2001, 4'53''

The proposal attempts a reconciliation between the search for an urbanity that is necessary for the "progressive mutation" of an obsolete back-harbor and the efficiency criteria that are fundamental for the functioning of a neighborhood where tertiary and residential activities exist. These activities must accompany the modernization of the port of Marseille while establishing a continuity with the existing urban fabric. This "urban gate" which we are evoking is the reconciliation of opposites: history and modernity, city and harbor, north and south, high and low, inside and outside. The issue of "in between", proposed as the central topic of the competition, is dealt with in the search for a more "essential" spatiality (topology) that develops a continuity between parts so as to promote "fluid interrelations" among them.

Founded in 1999, SYNTAX [medi(a)rchitecture] is composed by Gianluca Forlivesi, architect (1963) and Fabio Forlivesi, media designer (1975); it is involved in urban and architectural design, with occasional foray into interior design and mostly visual communication, in its most multimedia meaning: websites, CDroms, videoanimations, installations and stage designs.
