5+1 ARCHITETTI ASSOCIATI. Expansion of Law Courts, Siena

[in italiano] The idea behind the current Law Courts building was its position at the edge of the space between the built-up area enclosed by the walls and the green open area known as Lizza Park.

[25jan2002]
The 5+1 proposal was motivated by the desire to strengthen the values of the existing building in an already strongly characterised area:
- dialogue with the city walls (not just as enclosure but also an element that contributes to the city's current form) that belong and give identity to the city; architecturally, this dialogue has been created by the use of brickwork in the facade and passageway.

- design of the section in the relationship between the old and the new buildings, as a method of dating and building the city (in the project this was achieved in the connection and distribution between the two buildings).
- the creation of a relationship between the public building and urban spaces that is particularly strong and traditional in Siena (see the Campo and Palazzo Pubblico, Piazza del Duomo and the Cathedral and the Spedale);

In the project, this was resolved in the continuity of the relationship between Lizza Park, the existing building and the expansion as far as the public, U-shaped facade on via Diaz.
