L'Associazione culturale e scientifica I.C.S. International Communication Society, nell'ambito del NETD@YS 99, il Ministero Affari Esteri - Direzione Generale Relazioni Culturali e il Ministero Pubblica Istruzione, in collaborazione con Enti pubblici e privati, italiani ed esteri, promuovono un concorso a premi riservato agli studenti delle Scuole Secondarie Superiori, delle Accademia Belle Arti e delle Scuole di Design, pubblici e privati, italiani e esteri, dal titolo FUTURCITYCREA affinché, rifacendosi ai temi trattati nell'apposito sito web della Triennale di Milano sul futuro delle città, preparino e presentino progetti integrativi o alternativi sui vari aspetti inerenti la qualità della vita urbana.

La partecipazione

Come e dove finiscono le nostre città? Cosa significherà nel prossimo millennio abitare una metropoli, sentirsi suoi cittadini? Condividere una vita sempre più estesa nel territorio, fatta di rapidi e ampi spostamenti tra la residenza, il luogo di lavoro e le isole del tempo libero o piuttosto rinchiudersi in una dimensione domestica più introversa anche se "in rete" con il mondo?

Per rispondere a queste ed altre domande inerenti la qualità della vita nel contesto urbano, la Triennale di Milano, Italia, ha chiamato trentasei intellettuali, chiedendo a ciascuno di presentare la propria visione del futuro delle città a partire da un luogo emblematico: una strada, un incrocio, un quartiere, esemplari dei paradossi e delle potenzialità della vita nelle grandi città del mondo.

Per dieci mesi, ogni settimana, a partire da mercoledì 10 marzo, la Triennale ha collezionato anche nel proprio sito web i racconti tratti da questi luoghi particolari, evocati da architetti e urbanisti, sociologi, geografi, cineasti, artisti, scrittori, filosofi, critici d'arte.

E' nell'ambito di questo dibattito che gli studenti partecipanti al concorso sono invitati a presentare le loro proposte, integrative o alternative, sotto forma di pagine web.

Si suggerisce a coloro che intendono partecipare a questo concorso di consultare, servendosi anche di Internet: studi, progetti e realizzazioni di architetti conosciuti per le loro innovazioni, Università e Politecnici, l'Unesco "Lista del Patrimonio Mondiale", città storiche e siti naturali, Agenda 21 e conferenze e relazioni della Comunità Europea, studi sulla demografia, sociologia, economia con riferimento agli agglomerati urbani, ecosistemi e flussi di energia, saggi, possibili futuri scenari urbani ipotizzati da registi famosi nei loro film, da artisti nei loro quadri, dichiarazioni e "Carte internazionali" per la salvaguardia ambientale, storica e artistica delle città.

Modalità di comunicazione e termine per la presentazione dei lavori

Adesione delle Scuole o dei singoli studenti: entro il 30 settembre 1999 via posta, fax o Internet all'Associazione I.C.S. International Communication Society.
Conferma ai partecipanti della ricevuta adesione e invio della scheda da spedire con il lavoro.
Presentazione delle proposte in formato web entro il 20 ottobre 1999.
Comunicazione degli ammessi alla manifestazione finale che avrà luogo il 20 novembre 1999 a Milano, presso la Triennale con un Convegno sul tema, la presentazione da parte dei finalisti dei loro lavori e la proclamazione dei vincitori del concorso.

FUTURCITYCREA
from the memory of the past to the creativity of the future

INTERNATIONAL CONTEST 1999

The cultural and scientific Association I.C.S. International Communication Society, within the framework of the NETD@YS 99, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs - Directorate-General for Cultural Relationships and the Ministry of Education in cooperation with Italian and foreign, public and private bodies promote a contest with prizes reserved to students of Italian and foreign, public and private High Schools, Academies of Fine Arts and Schools of Design called FUTURCITYCREA so that they can prepare and present integrating or alternative projects on various aspects relevant to the quality of urban life, by going back to the themes dealt with on the proper website of the Milan Triennal on the future of cities.

How to participate:

How and where do our cities end up? What will living in a metropolis, feeling like its citizens mean in the next millennium? Sharing a far wider life in the territory, made up of rapid and wide movements between the home, job place and the islands of free time or rather shutting oneself up in a more introverted domestic dimension even if "on the net" with the world?

In order to answer these and other questions relevant to the quality of life in the urban context, the Milan Triennal in Italy has called on 36 intellectuals asking each of them to present their own views on the future of cities starting from an emblematic place: a street, a crossroads, a neighbourhood, specimens of paradoxes and potentials of life in big cities of the world.

For ten months, every week, starting from March 10, the Triennal will collect, also on its own website, the stories taken from these particular places, evoked by architects and town-planners, sociologists, geographers, cineastes, artists, writers, philosophers, art critics.

In the framework of this debate students participating in the contest are invited to submit their integrating or alternative proposals in the form of web pages.

We suggest to those who intend to participate in the contest to consult, by using also the Internet: studies, projects and realisations of famous architects for their innovations, Universities and Polytechnics, UNESCO "List of World Heritage", historical cities and natural sites, Agenda 21 and conferences and reports of the European Community, studies on demography, sociology, economy with reference to urban centres, ecosystems and energy flows, essays, possible future urban scenarios hypothesized by famous directors in their films, by artists in their pictures, declarations and "International Charters" for the environmental, historical and artistic safeguard of cities.

Communication and Terms for the submission of the works:

Adhesion of schools or single students: by 30 September 1999 by mail, fax or the Internet.
Acknowledgement of receipt and sending of the form to be enclosed together with the work.
Presentation of the proposals in web format by October 20 1999.
Communication of those who will participate in the final event scheduled for 20 November 1999 in Milan at the Triennal with a Meeting, presentation by the finalists of their works and announcement of the contest winners.
