PREMESSA
Le aziende Calia Salotti, Chateau d'Ax, Nicoletti Salotti, Industrie Natuzzi in collaborazione con il Comune di Matera e Corriere Lavoro - Corriere della Sera, coscienti della propria potenzialità acquisita nella produzione di prodotti per l'abitare umano e della valenza progettuale insita nelle abitazioni ormai universalmente conosciute come Sassi di Matera oggi patrimonio dell'UNESCO, vogliono promuovere la formazione di nuovi progettisti di prodotti mettendo a loro disposizione l'esperienza acquisita per la formulazione e produzione di nuovi imbottiti. All'iniziativa prendono parte l'Unione Industriale, la Camera di Commercio di Matera, Studio Oltre e Telemaco Srl. I Sassi di Matera saranno lo scenario di presentazione dei nuovi prodotti a significare un percorso di design che rimane concettualmente immutato nel tempo.

1. Oggetto del concorso
Le maggiori aziende del comprensorio del salotto e il Comune di Matera bandiscono un concorso di idee, riservato a giovani progettisti, per l'ideazione di poltrone e divani. Il concorso è organizzato in due categorie di progetti:
A - salotti;
B - singoli divani e poltrone.
Per la categoria A - salotti - si intende un progetto che preveda la creazione di prodotti fra di loro coordinati per costituire un insieme di sedute, definito "salotto", usualmente composto da un divano a due o tre posti e una o due poltrone a un posto. E` accettato il divano componibile se esso risulta dalla declinazione formale dei prodotti base che costituiscono il salotto. Anzi, nella progettazione dei singoli prodotti è sollecitata la proposta di creare nuovi elementi singoli che risolta la loro funzione originale possano contemporaneamente essere usati quali elementi costitutivi di un insieme componibile.

Per la categoria B - singoli divani e poltrone - si intende la progettazione o di un divano o di una poltrona che possano vivere singolarmente. Il divano e/o la poltrona oltre che nuovi per la loro morfologia potranno avere connotati d'uso per assolvere varie e diverse funzioni legate al relax, al riposo, alla seduta.

2. Partecipazione e incompatibilità
La partecipazione al concorso è riservata a progettisti italiani o stranieri che alla data di scadenza del bando non abbiano compiuto il 35º anno di età. E` possibile la partecipazione di scuole di design, come di singoli corsi di disegno industriale. Nel caso di partecipazione in gruppo, va indicato un capogruppo che diverrà unico responsabile e referente per ogni comunicazione da parte dell'organizzazione del concorso. La partecipazione al concorso indica l'accettazione incondizionata del presente regolamento, così come delle decisioni della giuria. Non possono partecipare al concorso i dipendenti delle aziende del settore del mobile imbottito.

3. Richiesta di progetti inediti
I progetti devono essere originali e inediti, sviluppati espressamente per il concorso in oggetto. La non conformità a tali requisiti prevede l'esclusione dei partecipanti al concorso a insindacabile giudizio della commissione.

4. Elaborati richiesti
Per ogni categoria di progetto si richiede un numero max di due tavole in formato 50x70 cm., montate su cartoncino rigido realizzate con qualsiasi tecnica e mezzo, in bianco e nero o colore, che descrivano il progetto in modo chiaro e completo, oltre a due diapositive delle stesse tavole. La mancanza del supporto rigido o delle diapositive autorizza la giuria a non ammettere i candidati alla selezione. I partecipanti devono allegare al progetto una relazione tecnico descrittiva di massimo due cartelle dattiloscritte e un eventuale modello tridimensionale sempre che questo sia compreso in un volume di cm 25x25x25.

5. Identificazione e anonimato
La partecipazione al concorso è in forma anonima. Nessun progetto presentato, pena l'esclusione, potrà contenere in alcuna parte il nome o i nomi degli autori, ma solo il motto con il quale il progetto si identifica.

Nome, cognome, indirizzo, eventuale numero di fax, data di nascita del partecipante o dei singoli componenti il gruppo, così come l'indicazione del capogruppo responsabile, dovranno essere contenuti in busta chiusa allegata al progetto recante all'esterno il motto di identificazione e la categoria A) o B) per la quale intende concorrere.

6. Giuria
La giuria del concorso sarà composta da:

9. In rappresentanza della Unione Industriale
10. In rappresentanza della Camera di Commercio
11. In rappresentanza della rivista del settore
12. In rappresentanza della rivista del settore
13. In rappresentanza della rivista settore, oltre che da un Segretario, senza diritto di voto, con funzioni esecutive di coordinamento.

7. Lavori della giuria
La giuria si riunirà tutte le volte che lo riterrà necessario per esaminare in modo congruo tutti gli elaborati pervenuti al concorso. I lavori della giuria saranno segreti, mentre sarà resa pubblica una relazione conclusiva contenente la graduatoria dei premiati con le relative motivazioni. La giuria delibera a maggioranza e il suo giudizio è inappellabile. La Giuria perché il suo giudizio sia valido deve essere composta da almeno sei giurati tra quelli designati. In caso di parità di voti, prevale il voto del Presidente.

8. Scadenze
Tutti gli elaborati devono essere consegnati entro le ore 13.00 del 15 gennaio 2000 presso la segreteria del concorso che ha sede nell'ufficio del Capo di Gabinetto del Comune di Matera - via Aldo Moro 75100 Matera. Qualora la consegna fosse fatta a mezzo vettore farà fede il timbro postale o il bollettino di spedizione. Non saranno comunque presi in considerazione quei progetti che perverranno oltre il 6º giorno dalla data di scadenza del concorso.

9. Premi e selezioni
Per ogni categoria di progetto saranno assegnati quattro premi:
1º classificato: stage presso un'azienda di produzione e premio di L. 4.000.000
2º classificato: stage presso un'azienda di produzione e premio di L. 3.000.000
3º classificato: stage presso un'azienda di produzione e premio di L. 2.000.000
4º classificato: stage presso un'azienda di produzione e premio di L. 1.000.000
La Giuria dispone inoltre di L. 10.000.000 che può suddividere a titolo di rimborso spese a quei progetti delle due categorie che saranno giudicati particolarmente meritevoli o da destinare tutto o in parte a suo insindacabile giudizio per incrementare i premi da corrispondere ai vincitori.

La Giuria ha inoltre a disposizione n. 30 abbonamenti a riviste specializzate da attribuire ai progetti vincitori e ai progetti segnalati. I progetti vincitori e quelli segnalati saranno pubblicati sulle maggiori riviste del settore.

10. Diritto di proprietà delle opere
I partecipanti al concorso anche se premiati mantengono la proprietà e il diritto di sfruttamento delle opere. Tuttavia si impegnano a non cedere a terzi questi diritti prima di un anno della data di scadenza del concorso. Si impegnano inoltre in caso di ipotesi di cessione dei diritti di riservare agli organizzatori del concorso, a parità di condizioni, il diritto di prelazione.

11. Utilizzo dei progetti vincitori e selezionati
Gli organizzatori del concorso sono liberi di utilizzare le immagini dei progetti vincitori selezionati in ogni loro iniziativa di comunicazione con il solo obbligo di citare gli autori o l'autore. Le aziende partecipanti all'organizzazione del concorso si impegnano a realizzare un prototipo dei progetti vincitori o selezionati; l'attribuzione di un progetto ad un'azienda verrà fatta mediante sorteggio. Tutti i prototipi saranno oggetto di una mostra - manifestazione che si svolgerà in locali messi a disposizione dal Comune di Matera, nella prima settimana di marzo 2000, e in altre mostre che verranno di volta in volta definite e comunicate. Ovviamente gli organizzatori del concorso sono liberi di utilizzare le immagini dei prototipi e i prototipi dei progetti vincitori selezionati in ogni loro iniziativa di comunicazione con il solo obbligo di citare gli autori o l'autore. Le aziende si riservano la facoltà di definire con gli autori dei progetti premiati e segnalati un contratto per lo sfruttamento commerciale del progetto.

12. Diffusione a livello internazionale della presente iniziativa
Il bando verrà pubblicato sulle pubblicazioni previste dalle norme vigenti, su manifesti, e sull'inserto del Corriere della Sera - Corriere Lavoro, sarà inserito nella pagina web del comune all'indirizzo http://www.comune.matera.it e sarà spedito a tutte le riviste internazionali del settore. Sarà, anche, inviato a tutte le facoltà di architettura, alle scuole di Design di arte applicata e compatibilmente con le risorse disponibili agli istituti tecnici e professionali di stato.

13. Divulgazione dei risultati
L'esito della valutazione della Giuria verrà comunicato direttamente con lettera raccomandata, anticipata per fax, ai vincitori e sarà pubblicata sulle maggiori riviste del settore.

14. Restituzione del materiale concorsuale
I progetti non premiati possono essere ritirati entro quindici giorni dalla comunicazione dei vincitori, quelli premiati o segnalati possono essere ritirati entro quindici giorni dalla chiusura della mostra. Decorsi tali termini l'organizzazione non si ritiene obbligata alla conservazione degli elaborati.

SASSI, SOFA SETS AND NEW GENERATIONS

International Competition

FOREWARD
The companies "Calia Salotti", "Chateau d'Ax", "Nicoletti Salotti", Indutries Natuzzi in collaboration with the Municipality of Matera and the "Corriere Lavoro" - "Corriere della Sera", well aware of their expertise in the manufacture of products for living environments and of their project quality characterising the houses of the world-wide known "Sassi of Matera" inscribed on UNESCO World Heritage List, wish to encourage the training of new product designers who will avail themselves of the expertise of these companies for the creation and production of new sofa sets. The "Unione Industriale" , the Chamber of Commerce of Matera, Studio Oltre and Telemaco Srl will take part in this initiative. The Sassi of Matera unrevealing the passage of time will be the scenario embracing the presentation of the new products in their timeless journey.

1. Object of the Competitition
The most important companies working in the sofa-set production area of this region and the Municipality of Matera are publishing a competition regarding the creation of armchairs and sofas reserved for young designers. The competition has been divided into two project categories:
A - sofa sets;
B - sofas and armchairs
Category A - sofas sets -It includes a project which foresees the creation of unit products so as to obtain seatings, called "sofa sets", normally composed of a two or three seating sofa and one or two single seating armchairs. A unit sofa will be accepeted if it is part of the basic products which form the sofa set. In fact, in the design of the single products, participants are encouraged to create new single elements which besides having their own functionality can also be used as unit furniture. Category B - Sofas and armchairs - It includes the design of a sofa or an armchair which can be used separately. The sofa and/or the armchair will be new for their morphology and might have the features that allow them to be used for other and several functions linked to relax and seating.

2. Participation and Incompatibility
The participation in the competition is reserved for Italian or foreign designers who, within the deadline of the competition announcement are not older than 35 years of age. Designing schools as well as single groups attending industrial designing courses can take part in the competition. In the case of group participation, it is necessary to indicate the name of the group leader, who will be the only contact person responsible for every communication on behalf of the organizers of the competition. Participation in the competition implies the unconditional acceptance of these regulations as well as of the jury's decisions. The employees of the companies working in the sofa production field cannot take part in the competition.

3. Demand for New Projects
The projects must be original, new and specially elaborated for this competition. Non conformity to these requisites implies the exclusion of the participants in the competition by the commission, whose decision is irrevocable.

4. Drawings Required
A maximum number of two 50 x 70 cm tables as well as two slides of the same tables are to be submitted for each project category. They shall be set up on stiff cardboard using any technique or means, they can be in black and white or coloured and they shall describe the project in a clear and complete way. Failing to use a stiff support or to present the slides authorises the jury to eliminate the candidates. Along with the project, the participants shall enclose a descriptive technical report of a maximum of two type-written pages as well as a three-dimensional model, that should not be bigger than 25x25x25 cm.

5. Identification and Anonymity Participation in the competition is subject to anonymity.
Under penalty of exclusion, no project submitted shall indicate in any part of it the name or the names of its authors, but only the slogan identifying the project. The name, surname, address, fax number, date of birth of the participant or single members of the group, as well as reference of the group leader, shall be delivered in a closed envelope to be attached to the project and bearing, on its outside part, the slogan identifying the project and the category A) or B), in which the project has been foreseen.

6. The Jury
The jury of the competition shall be composed by:

A secretary having executive co-ordination functions and no right to vote.

7. The Tasks of the Jury
The jury shall meet whenever necessary to examine, in the most appropriate way, all the drawings submitted to the competition. The work of the jury shall be kept secret while a final report stating the classification list of the winners and relative reasons for having chosen them shall be made public. The jury shall deliberate upon the majority of votes and its decision is irrevocable. The jury's decision is valid only if at least six of the designated members of the jury are present. Should there be equal votes, the President's vote shall prevail.

8. Deadlines
All the drawings shall be submitted by 1.00 p.m. of the 15th Gennuary 2000 at the secretariat of the competition whose seat is at the following address: Ufficio del Capo di gabinetto del Comune di Matera - Via Aldo Moro - 75100 Matera. Should the delivery take place by means of courier, the postmark date or the delivery note date shall be taken into consideration as proof of due arrival. However projects arriving after the sixth day of competition deadline shall not be taken into consideration.

9. Awards and Selections
Four awards shall be assigned to every project category: First awarded: 1 stage at a sofa company and an award of 4,000,000 Italian Liras Second awarded: stage at a sofa company and an award of 3,000,000 Italian Liras Third awarded: stage at a sofa company and an award of 2,000,000 Italian Liras Fourth awarded: stage at a sofa company and an award of 1,000,000 Italian Liras The Jury will avail itself of a sum of 10,000,000 Italian Liras, that it can unquestionably distribute as reimbursement for those projects belonging to the two categories that shall be judged particularly worthy or it can fully or partially assign the sum to increase the awards to be given to the winners. The Jury also avails itself of 30 subscriptions to technical magazines to award to the winning projects and to the projects that have been singled out. Both the winning projects and those singled out will be published on the most important magazines of the field.

10. Proprietary Right of the Works
Even if the candidates are awarded, they hold the proprietary right of the works and can make use of the works. However, they shall pledge not to grant these rights to third parties before one year from competition deadline. Should they grant these rights, they shall reserve the pre-emption rights to the organizers of the competition under the same conditions.

11. Utilization of Winning and Singled Out Projects
The organizers of the competition have the right to use the drawings of the winning projects that have been chosen for any type of initiative provided that they will name the authors or author. The companies taking part in the organization of the competition commit themselves to reproduce a prototype of the winning or singled out projects; the project will be assigned to the company by lot. All the prototypes will be displayed in an exhibition - that will be held in the halls of the Municipality of Matera in the first week of March 2000, as well as in other exhibitions that will be established and advertised from time to time. The organizers of the competition will have the right to use the drawings of the prototypes and the prototypes of the winning projects they have been chosen for any type of initiative provided that they will name the authors or the author. The companies reserve themselves the right to draw up a contract for the commercial use of the project in agreement with the authors of the awarded or singled out projects.

12. International Dissemination of the Present Initiative
The announcement shall be published on the gazzettes foreseen by the laws in force, on posters and on the inserts of the "Corriere della Sera"- "Corriere Lavoro" and will be sent to all the technical international magazines. It will also be possbile to read it on the Home Page of the Municipality of Matera at the following address http://www.comune.matera.it. Furthermore it will be sent to all the faculties of architecture, to Art Applied Design Schools and accordingly to the resources available, it will be sent to Public, Technical and Professional Istitutes.

13. Dissemination of the results The winners of the competition will be directly informed on the results by means of a fax that will be followed by a registered letter. The results will be published on the most important technical magazines.

14. Return of the Competition Material
The projects that have not been awarded can be returned within fifteen days from award publishing, those awarded or singled out can be returned within fifteen days from the end of the exhibition. Beyond these terms the organization is no longer obliged to keep the drawings submitted.
