The German Village
USA 1998, (3')

The German Village documents what remains of a German village that was built by the United States Army during World War II to test the effectiveness of fire bombing on the civilian population. What is shown is all that remains of the original village, designed by Eric Mendelsohn for the US Army at Dugway Proving Grounds in Utha. Built to match the exact materials used by the Germans before the war, the remaining structure is now used for antiterrorist training. The film was made as part of a seminar given by Mike Davis at the Southern California Institute of Architecture entitled Architecture and War.
