Astal Hull #96
Altopunto, Sweden 1999, 2'30''

Austall Hull#96 is the new Hi-Speed craft ordered by Bornhom Ferries for a 3-year charter contract on the route from Sweden to Denmark. Alto Punto was approached by the designer whom was given the task of projecting the interior lay-out to obtain a simultaneous process in designing and visualisation of the various steps in the project. The goals Alto Punto reached through this video work were essentially to describe the conceptual ideas to the customer, thereby illustrating and studying for example the implementation of the colour scheme in "true" proportions directly with him. Then, to make possible an investigation about complex interactions in 3D model and be able to test solution and proposals in the way. This way it was also possible to compare 2D technical drawings with 3D model in our Quality Control routine and keeping the 3D model up to dated with current changes that necessarily appear in a project of this nature. Last but not least the material constituted a valid tool for web marketing and safety instructions. The realisation of the project provided a perfect test of the integration degree this kind of work can reach thanks to new work skills, projecting tools and communication media. In fact the shipyard could send their 2D drawings by e-mail showing that today there are no boundaries or distance, the interior architect worked very close to Alto Punto sending projects by e-mail and sketches by fax, and the finally the possibility of visualising every step of the work turned out to be an essential tool for the project rather than being used only at the end as an end product.

Alto Punto was started in 1998 by interior designer Camilla Ravenna with the ambition to make the clients' vision come to life. Its work consists in turning sketches and ideas of clients into something as near to reality as possible. The work is always done closely in contacts with the architects and the designers to ensure that their visions are what is shown by the end product, capturing not only the visual parts of the product, but the feelings beneath as well. The final aim is to build bridges between creators and their clients to avoid expansive mistakes and misunderstandings. By using new technology it is possible to join the project at a very early stage, when ideas are still on the drawing board.
