![]() José Enrique Garnier Z. VA-NOS Costa Rica 1996, 21' VA-NOS is a video realised as a visual poem about the story of the Architecture in Costa Rica. In this video three different aspects of the architecture history are analysed, starting from the three different historiographical versions. The starting point of this analysis is based on the structural problem of recognition of architectural identity. Analysing the rooms as architectonic elements, first the windows and then the doors, we can recognise the historical differences and feelings. The three windows represent the three different historiographical views. The first one is the official history, the second one the structural history and the last one the so-called alternative history that you can use to discover or to look for. The text is fundamentally visual and is accompanied by Francisco Amighetti's poem "La Ventana" and by various styles of Latin-American music, embracing classical, religious, official and traditional melodies. VA-NOS tries to reconstruct the house where we go to or where we have to go to looking for an architecture fitting our identity. VA means "to go" and NOS means "our"; putting them together in the word VANOS we get the windows, the doors and the rooms as mirrors of the soul and of the feelings of architecture. This video has been realised in the University of Art in Costa Rica and its production has been totally done by José Enrique Garnier. The basic idea comes from a project of production-investigation-creation as a epistemological problem in the development of art. |
