The Hillier Group
The Valle Arriba Athletic Club
USA 1999, 3'30''

The architecture studio Hillier is designing a new and large sports complex for the Valle Arriba Club in Caracas, Venezuela and is also renovating all of the services of the existing structure. The project envisions the transformation of the center from a traditional sports center to one of family management with the direct participation of the members. It will be the first private sports complex in Venezuela. The new complex will be supplied with the equipment for the most popular national sports, areas for cardio vascular exercise, meeting places and all the equipment necessary for children's' sports. The building will be situated on a raised center of the complex, with several removable glass doors that look onto the swimming pools, the panorama of the city and the
mountains. Each area of the building and the surrounding center was designed with ample transparent spaces of metal and glass. In order to avoid the nearly eighty feet of unevenness between one part of the structure and another the Group envisioned a tower that will contain elevators and a series of bridges that will determine the stylistic figure of the complex.

The Hillier Group is a large association of architects situated in Philadelphia. For twenty years Barbara Hillier has served as director of the studio and has brought fame to the group not only with intelligent architectonic designs, but also with the elegant and unique images of her designs. In 1998, the studio's web site was nominated the Shockwave site of the day for the structural complexity of the web page. The site exhausted the new possibilities of the animation software Macromedia in order to demonstrate the phases of advancement of Internet projects. The politics of development on the group's web page is still expanding in both services offered and design ideas.
